I'm a Registered Social Worker, therapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer who specializes in working with survivors of sexual assault/abuse, intimate partner violence, family violence, and all forms of gender-based violence.
I provide trauma therapy using a blend of EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapies. A big part of my work is de-pathologizing survivors and the strategies they have used to survive and adapt to patterns of abuse and oppression in their lives. I focus on teaching and exploring abuse dynamics and how they impact survivors' lives.

I work with individual children, adolescents, and adults. I draw from different modalities depending on what is needed. Among other approaches, I apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interoceptive Exposure Therapy and Attachment Theory. Making the choice to take the step to reach out and ask for help can take great courage. I endeavour to respond to that courage with a genuine interest in meeting you wherever you are in your life and walk with you towards healing. I consider it my sincere privilege and honour to be trusted with details about your life. I am here to listen. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have you suffered trauma and wonder if it’s possible to heal? Are you anxious and worried, struggling to cope? Do you push people away before they hurt you? Or chase after someone, terrified to lose them? Do you question your worth, sure that you will never be enough? Have you ever wondered “is there hope for me”? YES! There is hope! It is possible to heal, to learn how to have healthier relationships, to feel good about yourself instead of feeling bad. You can learn how to manage emotions so that anxiety doesn’t stop you from doing things you want to do. You CAN gain more control of your life and emotions and feel more confident!

Hi, I'm Kelly and I really love what I do. Seriously. Nearly everyday I feel like I could pinch myself that I get to see people do really hard things and fall back in their lives (and often, with their person too). Couples therapy isn't for every therapist but it is the thing I have devoted myself too because it takes a certain set of skills to do well. Years of training have gone into my six-session therapy approach, along with a lot of feedback from cllients who say they felt like their therapist was winging it, or they never made progress.

Perhaps you have a difficult situation or relationship in your life. Maybe this is an unusual occurrence or perhaps this challenge has been in your life for a long time and has been limiting or harmful to you. Psychotherapy is a way to assess and address problems. It is a tool to work through hard times and to help achieve the balanced and content life that comes from understanding and resolving these problems. If you are ready to discuss and change problematic emotions, thoughts, patterns and situations, psychotherapy may be very helpful.

Many issues which bring people to psychotherapy stem from painful past learning, whether serious trauma or abuse or "normal" childhood events such as being bullied. Therefore, I have sought training in techniques designed to be efficient and to minimize the time and discomfort involved in the change process. I have completed training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR, the Flash technique, Mindfulness and clinical hypnosis, among other techniques. I have also recently taken online courses from Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Eric Gentry to deepen my understanding of trauma treatment.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience supporting children, youth, and young adults with complex needs. My practice is grounded in the belief that people are inherently capable of growth and healing when given the space and support to explore their inner world. I use a warm, authentic, and relational approach that helps clients feel safe and seen. I began my career supporting young people and families in crisis, many of whom were navigating trauma, loss, attachment disruption, and developmental or mental health diagnoses. This deep, meaningful work has informed my clinical practice ever since.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
