My ideal client is one who is aware of their need for support who is trying to manage trauma, anxiety, uncertainty in life, complexity in relationships, an immediate crisis, and/or a feeling that something just isn’t “right”. They want to move forward. They also want to feel empowered to use the capacity for learning about oneself to bring about healthy change. Such changes can be individual, couple or family focused. My clients may not know exactly how to manage what is impacting them, but they are ready to embrace the struggle within a nonjudgmental and supportive therapeutic relationship.

Everyone struggles! This is just a fact. It comes with being human. We struggle in so many ways. We struggle with family, we struggle in our relationships, at work, with our children. We struggle with ourselves. Sometimes, it makes perfect sense why we are feel the way we feel, and for the most part, we get through it. But there are times when the struggle is too confusing, too consuming and we need someone to just listen and help us navigate the struggle. We want to get to a place that feels OK, maybe not amazing or incredible, but to a place where it feels like you're on the right path and can finally breathe.

Times have been more challenging than ever before, whether you are experiencing new struggles, or you have been coping with existing mental health challenges, I’m here to take this journey with you. Throughout our lives, we may experience troubles understanding exactly what we are feeling, overwhelming emotions, and painful patterns that can impact the relationship we have with ourselves, and those we love. We may find ourselves wanting to feel and react differently, process and heal from past traumas, and instead, feel more connected, balanced, and grounded within our every day lives.

My area of interest in working with couples and individuals is to help them relieve stress and improve their relationships. I help couples to understand the negative cycles that can be damaging and to engage in more effective ways when problems are overwhelming. I help individuals to experience new perspectives on problems as a beginning to making things better. Developing an environment of trust and confidentiality is my primary focus, helping people feel safe in sharing their personal problems. Consider taking the time to spend on yourself and your relationships by booking a virtual appointment.

In life, we get many chances to rewrite our stories. Healing can be found when we connect with our true nature; when we unite with the parts of us that we have disconnected from because of stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger, chronic illness, disability, shame, or guilt. I see my role as creating a container to support you in developing a deeper relationship with yourself, your community, and your greater environment.

Our team consists of a psychologist, a psychotherapist, a social worker, and a neurotherapist. We offer cutting-edge services to improve your mental health and optimize your functioning. We can assess, diagnose, and treat many conditions that may adversely affect your well-being. We believe that only by working with the whole person, body and mind, can true and lasting changes take place. We call our approach "neuroshaping," which is an application of the science of neuroplasticity. The neuroshaping services that we offer integrate psychotherapy, hypnosis, meditation, biofeedback, neurofeedback, and other evidence-based strategies.

My primary goal in counselling is to support clients in their understanding of self. Recognition of your individual dignity, value and unique experiences allows you to journey towards stronger mental health. Even difficult times can support growth, new found knowledge and strength and potential. Counselling allows me to help you recognize and enhance your own power to thrive and/or heal. Reflective practice and careful listening allows me to see and hear the pieces of your story that you may be too close to notice.

Hello! My name is Carly and I run a psychotherapy, neurofeedback and general wellness centre called Realign Wellness Centre that services individuals, couples and families. In today’s fast paced and unpredictable world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and “stuck” in patterns of thinking and behaving that hinder healthy growth and development. It is not unexpected that people are feeling more mentally and physically burnt out and unsure how to move forward to feel more balanced. Neurofeedback supports the brain in developing greater resiliency and flexibility and in general, the mind and body's capacity for healing.

Do you ever lay awake at night wondering why your child is acting or behaving the way they are? Why have they become so anxious? How did they become so aggressive? I will help children and youth navigate through their emotions, worries and self-defeating thoughts in a fun and engaging style. I will teach how to regulate emotions through breathing techniques, meditations, recreational activities or help them with strategies to fall asleep easier at night. If your child struggles in school or you receive frequent calls from the school, I can help navigate the school system to assist your child or youth to be as successful as possible.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
