You didn't expect or plan your life to be like this. It wasn't supposed to be this hard. You're struggling with things that you thought were behind you. Your relationship with your partner and/or children feels painful; there is a better way to connect but it seems hopeless. You want to feel comfortable with yourself, in your skin, and with others but just can't seem to. You're asking yourself "Why can't I get it together?" or "Why can't I just get over this?". You might wonder if people are judging you. You're beyond ready for you, your life, and your relationships to be peaceful and fun again. Welcome, I can't wait to meet you!

You know that voice in your head while you're competing? The one that questions you before the big moment, replays mistakes long after practice ends, or tells you to “just push through” when you’re already exhausted? I'm here to help with that! As a former Division I hockey player, I understand the intensity, identity, pressure, and pride that come with being an athlete. I’ve lived the early mornings, the injuries, the team dynamics, and the weight of expectation. I now support athletes from both personal experience and clinical training.

Sometimes life becomes heavy. You may be moving through your days feeling lost, grieving, anxious, stretched thin, unsure how to cope, or disconnected from yourself and others. If you’re struggling-within yourself, in relationships, at work, or at school- you’re not alone. What you’re feeling is valid, and support is available. If you’re longing for a space where you can exhale and feel understood, you’re in the right place. My approach is down-to-earth, warm, and non-judgmental. I offer a space where you can show up exactly as you are without pressure. I deeply respect your lived experience and your capacity to heal.

Maybe you’ve been carrying so much on your own - sudden waves of sadness, the steady pull of anxiety, or relationships that make you question your sense of self. Perhaps you’ve even tried therapy before and wondered if change was really possible. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of the individuals I work with are insightful and reflective, but still feel stuck in habits or cycles that no longer serve them. Therapy with me is a space where your fears, contradictions, and strengths are all welcome, and where you can feel seen and supported.

**Accepting New Clients** I believe that the pain each man goes through is unique to his issues but is not dissimilar from the pain other men experience. Most men are taught about what feelings are acceptable to feel and in what situations it is acceptable to feel them. This can lead to men hearing phrases such as “toughen up”, “be strong” or “don’t cry”. Some men will say “I’m alright” when answering questions about their well being when they really aren’t “alright”. I believe such phrases and answers must be challenged. Every man deserves to be heard and have his feelings acknowledged. Together, we will work towards that goal.

I hold compassion for all you have been through and where you are now. I approach therapy as a collaboration between you and I, where you are respected and honoured and your strengths are highlighted. We work at a safe pace in line with your needs. I recognize how hard it is to be a human in this world and the support required to get through challenging and transitional times, as well as the possibility for resilient growth and recovery. I am an avid lover of music, art and dance, believing that creativity is a part of being alive. I work to integrate this into my practice, along with a spiritual and intuitive sense.

Cancer Counsellors
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counselling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
