It's heartbreaking to watch your child or
teen
struggle. As a parent or guardian, you know your child best, and know can when they are hurting. Luckily, they have shared a little about what’s happening, but this has left you feeling even more uncertain about their needs- powerless to do anything about the problems they are facing. It feels like things will never change. They have so much potential, and you would hate to see them miss it.

My primary goal in counselling is to support clients in their understanding of self. Recognition of your individual dignity, value and unique experiences allows you to journey towards stronger mental health. Even difficult times can support growth, new found knowledge and strength and potential. Counselling allows me to help you recognize and enhance your own power to thrive and/or heal. Reflective practice and careful listening allows me to see and hear the pieces of your story that you may be too close to notice.

Hello! My name is Carly and I run a psychotherapy, neurofeedback and general wellness centre called Realign Wellness Centre that services individuals, couples and families. In today’s fast paced and unpredictable world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and “stuck” in patterns of thinking and behaving that hinder healthy growth and development. It is not unexpected that people are feeling more mentally and physically burnt out and unsure how to move forward to feel more balanced. Neurofeedback supports the brain in developing greater resiliency and flexibility and in general, the mind and body's capacity for healing.

When you stop striving for perfection and meeting the expectations of others, you can begin the radicaliu act of accepting yourself as you are. In this process, a lot of old patterns and beliefs can emerge. These old ways may have served you well when you were younger - they may have helped you survive or find belonging. But you have grown in many ways, and things in your life may have changed. Perhaps you have a family of your own now, or are seeking greater well-being and peace of mind. Whatever your journey, I look forward to meeting you where you are at and helping you establish a more grounded, calm state of being.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
