My goal is to work collaboratively with you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself. We can work together to build and deepen your self-awareness, recognize your strengths and utilize those strengths to shed old patterns that no longer serve you. I have experience working with a variety of mental health concerns including: anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation and adjusting to life's difficulties.

Hi there! I'm Kasandra. I work primarily with youth, individuals, parents/couples, and families who feel overwhelmed, stuck in patterns, or disconnected. Many clients come to me wanting help navigating big emotions, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, self-identity, and behavioural or relational challenges. I also work closely with parents who are doing their best but feel unsure how to respond, exhausted by ongoing cycles, or struggling to stay connected with their child or each other. We work through communication breakdowns, emotional distance, parenting stress, or repeated conflict cycles, while rebuilding trust, teamwork, and closeness.

One may notice that sometimes we react automatically and not in a way that is helpful to achieve our goals, connect with other people or stay true to who we really are. We may see ourselves following the same pattern again and again or feel haunted by our past. We may experience a range of complex emotions that feel locked inside and continue to build up until there is no more space to hold it. We may almost hear the running commentary of a voice inside saying things like "You are not good enough", "You are not worthy", "You are a failure". And sometimes body could be so exhausted from the turmoil that we withdraw into ourselves.

I’m a believer that there is no “one size fits all” to therapy and draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to ensure that my therapeutic approach is tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
My name is Janina and I’m passionate about supporting individuals and couples through life’s challenges with compassion and curiosity. With over a decade of experience in social services, I’ve supported individuals and families through a wide range of struggles, including life transitions, mental health issues, trauma, and relationship conflicts. My work in child welfare taught me how to break down complex challenges into manageable steps, especially when life feels overwhelming and the path forward seems unclear.

I am a trained therapist specializing in ACT, CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, and Narrative approaches.
Many people learn to silence their values, needs, and authentic voice in order to cope or get through difficult experiences. Over time, this can lead to anxiety, emotional overwhelm, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, low self-esteem, or a sense of disconnection from yourself and others. You may appear to be coping on the outside while feeling exhausted or overwhelmed internally. I offer a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where we can explore your experiences, deepen self-understanding, build resilience, and reconnect with the strengths and wisdom already within you.

Sliding scale offered. Being a first-responder for years and former international student, I understand the courage it takes to navigate major life transitions. Moving across countries, adapting to a new culture, adjusting to climate changes, building community from scratch, and redefining identity can impact us emotionally, physically, and relationally. These experiences can bring growth, but also loneliness, pressure, uncertainty, and overwhelm. I bring both professional training and lived experience to support clients through these complex transitions with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Young adulthood is a complicated stage of life. The independence is exciting, but there is so much pressure to have your future ‘figured out’. Although there is a lot of advice out there, you need to make your own, authentic path. Therapy should be about discovering what is important to you and then working towards those values. Even when the world around us can feel hopeless at times, I can help you figure out where your path may lead.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
