Brown Counselling and Therapy Services is a team of qualified therapists who are passionate about working alongside you to provide the tools to help you navigate through life's up and downs. I have personal experience with the twists and turns, obstacles and upheavals that can throw us off course or redirect our life journeys entirely. My own journey showed me the importance of having non-judgemental support and compassionate guidance through hard times. I follow a person-centred approach and aim to create a safe space to face both internal and external obstacles.

Welcome! I specialize in supporting children and youth, though I am open to working with adults as well. My expertise covers a range of issues, including self-esteem, confidence, emotional regulation, school difficulties, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, family conflict, peer relationships, parenting challenges, and communication hurdles.

I have written a self-help book about my journey, and I know how difficult life can seem. Through working together, my aim is to help empower clients to be confident in meeting their present and future challenges. Deciding to get involved in therapy is a major first step to create a rich and meaningful life. In times where you feel like no one will listen to you, I am more than happy to be that person.

My practice focuses on identifying neuropsychological difficulties, helping clients to better understand their cognitive profile, and helping clients learn ways to adapt to any cognitive limitations. Practical recommendations are provided through one-on-one feedback and a detailed report, so that clients, their families, and their healthcare providers can work together to maximize functioning. Above all, I strive to provide an objective opinion about an individual's cognition.

I have worked cross-culturally with clients with a range of issues including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and many other psychological problems. I have had the chance to help both individuals and couples using holistic, evidence-based practices and techniques. Different therapeutic techniques and approaches used are tailored according to my clients' needs and preference in order to help my clients understand themselves, manage their emotions, and improve their quality of life.

I work with children, youth and adults. Some of my areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, identity and self-understanding, ADD/ADHD, and trauma (PTSD). I also have experience working with people who struggle with addictions, suicide ideation, and self-harm. My work perspective is based on the Strengths Model, which means that I believe that once we understand the root of our weaknesses, we can turn them into strengths. In addition, my approach is informed by the Narrative and Attachment Theory models, tailored to the specific needs of the person and/or family.

Navigating life's challenges can be difficult and reaching out for support is often the hardest step. I am here to provide a “safer”, caring and supportive space to you in your mental health journey. I step into the therapeutic space as a woman of colour and a psychotherapist. I recognize how the systems we exist in influence our lives and experiences. My approach is trauma-informed, intersectional, and anti-oppressive. In our sessions, I encourage exploration, offer support, and nurture fresh perspectives through gentle and creative methods.

I am a Registered Master of Social Work, practicing clinical Psychotherapy. I work with individuals, couples, adolescents and seniors treating issues of stress, depression, anger management, workplace issues and burnout, grief and loss, relationship issues, marital/relationship counselling, parenting issues, separation and remarriage support. Life stage transitions and the role of family of origin and of culture in communication and in the perception of situations are a special interest. We handle life with the tools with which we have learned to survive. Therapy helps us to reassess and adjust these coping strategies to our present day context.

Since 2009, I have enjoyed working with individuals who are experiencing conflict in their relationships (with others or within themselves), and those struggling with either overwhelming emotions or with feeling disconnected from them. I support clients in healing from traumatic life experiences, including abuse and neglect. I particularly enjoy helping men become better attuned to their emotional experience and develop more satisfying connections with others. I offer a compassionate, authentic space to explore the relationship ruptures, health complaints, and difficult emotions that contribute to your presenting concern.

TIPES counsellors are working hard to bridge the gap between behavioural and mental health services, and are working from a multi-disciplinary approach with our clients. Our team of social workers has extensive experience working with autistic, neurodiverse individuals, and their families, as well as working on issues related to depression, anxiety, mood, social isolation, sexual and gender identity and more. Many of our clients require support related to goal setting and building skills around executive functioning and motivation. We offer parent and couples counselling. Clients can also be seen by our Supervising Psychologist.
