Being a kid is hard, it can't be compared to previous generations anymore because, whether we like it or not, things have changed. Kids often face a lot of challenges that might seem small to adults but feel huge to them. There are pressures from school, friends, and family. It’s a time of big emotions and changes, and it’s not always easy to navigate. Teenagers are expected to know what they want to do with their lives rather than being able to focus on who they want to be as a person. Parents are expected to know how to grow and support these kids even though they weren't necessarily given the proper tools.

I strive to create a space where individuals and couples feel safe to talk, share, explore and be challenged. I value collaboration and tailor treatment utilizing a number of evidence-based techniques to help the clients who I am honoured to share space with, work through obstacles, develop healthy coping habits, and flourish in their life.

I hold a strong belief that people are perfectly imperfect. They are beautiful and spectacular AND can become stuck, unhappy and unable to live a fulfilling life. That's where I come in. I too wear a lot of hats, I'm a new mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter, friend, psychotherapist, and above all, human. I know what it's like to feel stuck, hopeless, anxious, and overwhelmed. As a passionate Registered Social Service Worker and Psychotherapist, my experience professionally and personally allows me to understand the best ways to address each client's needs in an effective manner.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom” -Anais Nin. I can appreciate how difficult it is to make the first steps in entering into a therapeutic relationship. Telling our stories takes tremendous courage and strength. We can trick ourselves into believing that it would be easier to remain silent. We all hit a point in our lives where we need extra guidance, a genuine ear, or a safe place to open up. I create a safe and open space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and stories. I combine several therapeutic techniques, to allow you the freedom to share your journey.

Dr. Seth Gilligan said, “stress is inevitable but overwhelm is optional.” While life can be challenging and the future uncertain, it's often the stories we tell ourselves that lie at the root of our suffering. Do you struggle with feelings of low self-worth and inadequacy? Do you find yourself ruminating about the past or lacking the motivation to move forward? Is fear of uncertainty holding you back from the life you’d like to live? Are you stuck in a cycle of self-defeating behaviors that you'd like to change? The good news is we have more influence over our own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors than we give ourselves credit for.

Many of us come to periods in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, confused or immobilized by our circumstances and our feelings. Or we reach a point in life when we know in our gut that something has to change, but we just don’t know where to begin. Doubt and negative self-talk can make us feel stuck. Sometimes we struggle with feelings of sadness, anger, shame or anxiety and can feel very alone in that struggle. Having a safe place to talk and a safe, non-judgmental person to talk to is key to healing and moving beyond the “stuck place”.

Are you struggling? Overwhelmed? Feeling frustrated or stuck? Maybe you've noticed waves of anxiety or periods of low mood. Taking care of our families, our loved ones and ourselves can feel like it's too much some days. You are not alone. Maybe you'd like to talk about strategies that might help ease the tough moments, or maybe you just need someone to sit with, while you talk about the hard and scary stuff. We often brush aside our own needs to take care of our people, until it bubbles over and we don't recognize ourselves. Let's get back to you.

Are you struggling with grief and loss, sadness and depression, anxiety and frustration, or just the stress of everyday life? Loss is more than just losing a loved one. We have lost so much of what we knew as “normal” in recent years. Grief and loss are expected realities of life but you do not need to go through it alone. Connecting with the right therapist can be the first step in addressing your concerns and making a change. My intention is to just be human with you as we work together. I would be honoured to hear your story and support you in creating the rich and meaningful life that you deserve.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
