I use a strength-based, solution-focused and trauma informed lens when guiding my clients through the therapeutic process, while pulling from CBT, DBT , ACT and EFFT modalities to help you develop healthier coping strategies in hopes to spark hope, reduce stressors, and challenge our negative thoughts that increase feelings of being overwhelmed and hopeless.
Have you ever wished you could be fully present with your loved ones? Maybe even were curious about what life would be like if you were able to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. Perhaps you have experienced trauma that has shaped your core beliefs which has led to difficulties and challenges in your interpersonal relationships. I am a client-focused therapist that will meet you where you are at and walk with you, your children, or your family to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions and how surviving adversity can impact your well-being.

I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches including solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioural, systems, attachment, and dialectical behaviour models.
Throughout my career I have worked with people of all ages and abilities, with a focus on grief and/or trauma related to loss through death. I view grief as an adaptive response to loss, one which can challenge our coping emotionally, physically, cognitively, behaviourally, socially, and spiritually, particularly when trauma accompanies the death. I work from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and relational framework that puts your needs at the centre of our work.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom” -Anais Nin. I can appreciate how difficult it is to make the first steps in entering into a therapeutic relationship. Telling our stories takes tremendous courage and strength. We can trick ourselves into believing that it would be easier to remain silent. We all hit a point in our lives where we need extra guidance, a genuine ear, or a safe place to open up. I create a safe and open space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and stories. I combine several therapeutic techniques, to allow you the freedom to share your journey.

If you’re a parent looking for the right service for your child/youth, or you are an adult looking for a non-judgemental, authentic, down to earth, and compassionate therapist then look no further. I use an evidenced-based trauma and attachment treatment lens with my clients. We begin by building a therapeutic relationship and exploring support networks, strengths, and coping skills. This will also build a sense of empowerment that you (or your child) can use to navigate difficulties that may arise while transitioning to the next phase in your life/families life.

Are you struggling? Overwhelmed? Feeling frustrated or stuck? Or maybe you are a new parent with a little one (or 3). The last 3 years have been really hard, and your feelings are valid. Taking care of our families, our loved ones and ourselves during all of this can feel like it's too much some days. You are not alone. Maybe you'd like to talk about strategies that might help ease the tough moments, or maybe you just need someone to sit with, while you talk about the hard and scary stuff. We often brush aside our own needs to take care of our people, until it bubbles over and we don't recognize ourselves. Let's get back to you.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced for Eating Disorders (CBT-E & CBT-T), and have been completing training for CBT-AR, and applying Dialectical Behaviour Therapy ( DBT ) skills in eating disorder treatment.
Adults (ages 18 & up) - Reaching out for support can be difficult, and there tends to be a lot of shame around mental health. Let us break that stigma together, and learn what it is to take care of ourselves! I offer counselling services for a myriad of mental health concerns, including (but not limited to): depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, relational concerns, self-esteem, and more! Through counselling, you will learn about your own strengths and limits; develop a greater understanding of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours; and establish skills to overcome life’s challenges.

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
