Many of us come to periods in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, confused or immobilized by our circumstances and our feelings. Or we reach a point in life when we know in our gut that something has to change, but we just don’t know where to begin. Doubt and negative self-talk can make us feel stuck. Sometimes we struggle with feelings of sadness, anger, shame or anxiety and can feel very alone in that struggle. Having a safe place to talk and a safe, non-judgmental person to talk to is key to healing and moving beyond the “stuck place”.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom” -Anais Nin. I can appreciate how difficult it is to make the first steps in entering into a therapeutic relationship. Telling our stories takes tremendous courage and strength. We can trick ourselves into believing that it would be easier to remain silent. We all hit a point in our lives where we need extra guidance, a genuine ear, or a safe place to open up. I create a safe and open space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and stories. I combine several therapeutic techniques, to allow you the freedom to share your journey.

Before my clinical career, I supported individuals as a behaviour support therapist and supervision access therapist. If you’re a parent looking for the right service for your child/youth, or you are an adult looking for a non-judgemental, authentic, down to earth, and compassionate therapist then look no further. I use an evidenced-based trauma and attachment treatment lens with my clients. We begin by building a therapeutic relationship and exploring support networks, strengths, and coping skills. This will also build a sense of empowerment that you (or your child) can use to navigate difficulties that may arise while transitioning to the next phase in your life/families life.

Are you struggling with grief and loss, sadness and depression, anxiety and frustration, or just the stress of everyday life? Loss is more than just losing a loved one. We have lost so much of what we knew as “normal” in recent years. Grief and loss are expected realities of life but you do not need to go through it alone. Connecting with the right therapist can be the first step in addressing your concerns and making a change. My intention is to just be human with you as we work together. I would be honoured to hear your story and support you in creating the rich and meaningful life that your deserve.

Throughout my career I have worked with people of all ages and abilities, with a focus on grief and/or trauma related to loss through death. I view grief as an adaptive response to loss, one which can challenge our coping emotionally, physically, cognitively, behaviourally, socially, and spiritually, particularly when trauma accompanies the death. I work from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and relational framework that puts your needs at the centre of our work.

Change is tough, but not impossible. I believe humans are survivors, pushing through difficult times, healing wounds and ultimately thriving. Therapy support is a key component to moving beyond surviving to thriving. When you work with me, you can expect patience, empathy and a willingness to travel through the therapy process at your pace. I will be a guide and a partner as you share your pain and your successes. I encourage reflection and I support you to stay in the moment through my use of mindfulness techniques that we can use in the therapy room and that you can take with you.

My therapeutic model is
attachment-based
and I am a spiritually attuned therapist who recognizes that problems are not one dimensional, but multifaceted.
Are you in need of couples therapy? Is infidelity, communication, trauma, unresolved conflict, or unmet needs affecting your life and relationships? Then let us talk in a safe environment how to de-escalate emotions, manage conflict constructively, enhance romance and intimacy, or attain an amicable solution. Or, are you in need of individual therapy? Is loneliness, anger, depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, stress, grief/loss or other mental health issues getting in the way of your happiness? You can learn how to manage stress, regulate your emotions, channel your energy in a positive way, and have better relationships.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
