“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom” -Anais Nin. I can appreciate how difficult it is to make the first steps in entering into a therapeutic relationship. Telling our stories takes tremendous courage and strength. We can trick ourselves into believing that it would be easier to remain silent. We all hit a point in our lives where we need extra guidance, a genuine ear, or a safe place to open up. I create a safe and open space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and stories. I combine several therapeutic techniques, to allow you the freedom to share your journey.

Art therapy
is a great way to hack the therapeutic process. Trying to work through something tough, but you can’t talk about it — or you don’t want to?
Art Therapy
gives you a way to express yourself that doesn’t require you to, or to be “good at
art
”!
Art
gives your brain a way to get things out that our conscious mind doesn’t want to think about. So much of our relationship conflict comes from what’s not being said. What are you not saying? To whom? What’s stopping you? Let’s find out.

I like to use
art
and creativity to help children feel comfortable and engaged.
I work with all stages of the life cycle with a particular focus on children, youth and families. I help individuals figure out what goals they wish to achieve and support them to make a plan of how to get there. It is wonderful to talk to family and friends but they are often not "neutral" in terms of the support they provide. Having someone to talk to outside that circle to listen, reframe what is going on and offer strategies can be invaluable!

Do you worry a lot? Do you get stuck thinking about the same things over and over? Do you often feel sad? Big emotions can sometimes affect the things in our lives that are supposed to be fun. They can impact us at home, school, activities, work and even our friendships and relationships. They can be hard to understand and explain to others (including the people that love and care for us), because sometimes even we don’t always know. Having so many emotions running through our bodies can be confusing. We can feel angry, frustrated, panicked and stressed all at the same time; and sometimes all we want is to understand why.

I believe seeking supports through counselling is an act of bravery and courage and as such I consider it an honour for anyone to confide in me their struggles, hopes and aspirations. My intention is to simply be human with individuals and help guide them along their journey. Therapy is not a fix it all solution, it takes time, practice and most importantly a genuine human connection.

Currently accepting new clients. Are you worried about your child or teen? Perhaps you are struggling with dealing with traumatic experiences. Young children need an approach that is tailored to their development, and it is for this reason that I offer an approach that is child-centered using both directive and non-directive play therapy. I provide counselling to children, teens and their families that might be dealing with emotional, social or behavioral issues, or that might be struggling with mental health difficulties. Using a trauma-focused approach, I also offer EMDR therapy to adults that have undergone trauma.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
