Being in a culture that asks you to shrink yourself, your needs, and your beliefs can be exhausting. This may be impacting how you experience your mood (depression or anxiety), body, food, relationships or the spaces you occupy. There may be ways that you protect the more tender parts of you that get in the way of being more in line with your values, and finally having the relationship with yourself and others that you have always wanted. You might be feeling overwhelmed by changes you need to make and simply don't know where to begin. You deserve to live a rich, expansive life, and to have deep, meaningful connections.

I am dedicated to creating a safe, and welcoming space for my clients. I specialize in attachment, emotion regulation, trauma, burnout and family dynamics. I hope to help clients curate self-compassion, deep connections and a greater levels of self-awareness. I also love to assist parents by teaching parents how to “emotion coach” their children. Through emotion coaching, parents are able to connect with their children, and help children learn how to take charge of their big emotions. I help parents know what to say for those moments when nothing seems to work!

Are you feeling stuck and not understanding why you cannot implement the change you want to bring to your life? Do you tell yourself you should know better and feel discouraged when you cannot “fix” yourself on your own? This feeling may be because working on ourselves is more complex than it appears. The clues about what really needs attention in our life are often found not in what we already know consciously but in the deeper layers of our unconscious. Working from a holistic psychodynamic perspective can help understand what these clues mean and what constructive change may look like for you.

You’ve been through a lot. Maybe you've never told anyone your story; maybe you've only shared it with a select few. And you have heard that talking helps. But you wonder — how many times do I have to re-hash the discomfort before it releases me? How long before I can rest? You might be feeling numb, angry, sad, stuck, hopeless, scared… You may not have a clear direction, or any idea of your goals. You might not know where or how to start. Yes - We all carry our past into the future. But the weight doesn’t have to be unbearable, and you don’t have to hold it alone.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
