I am an Indigenous social worker. My social work practice focuses on Indigenous healing methods together with non-Indigenous practices. I incorporate the Traditional Native Code of Ethics into my practice. I recognize that there is no one-size fits all approach to supporting clients and I support my clients in finding strength-based skills, interventions and solutions that will support achieving their goals. For BC clients, I can offer direct billing through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).

I provide trauma-focused integrative psychotherapy to adults with a focus on exploring internal experience, identifying unhelpful patterns, creating cohesion and meaning from unprocessed memories and experiences, and cultivating a way of living that is consistent with one's values. My skillset is helpful for clients with a history of difficulty experiencing and navigating emotions, uncertainty about identity and values, and little opportunity to process the impact of experiences on their functioning. My style is highly exploratory and insight focused with skills development where appropriate and desired by the client.

As a therapist, I believe that providing clients with a nonjudgmental, supportive, and safe environment encourages self-awareness, self-exploration, and self-compassion while working together as a team when exploring their life challenges. As a bicultural woman, mother, and wife, I find managing too many roles and responsibilities challenging, which can lead to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. I can assist you in navigating these challenges while remaining focused and engaged, working towards and achieving your life goals and authentic self.

The therapies that resonate for me are rooted in anti-oppressive, somatic approaches, alongside neuro-biological, trauma focused and attachment therapies.
Accepting new clients! At times life can take us far away from ourselves and when that happens each day can feel challenging. Together I hope our work brings about understanding and self compassion for the ways our adaptive bodies and brains function to protect and connect us. In therapy I like to use laughter, curiosity, and genuine connection to build therapeutic relationship.

My area of expertise is in trauma focused care and Attachment-Trauma therapy.
Online sessions only. To book an initial session, or a complementary 15minute consultation, please visit our website. The way we experience the world around us and our inner world profoundly influences our overall psychological health and well-being. The goal of therapy is to develop a healthy sense of self, that is, the development of a human being who knows what they believe, what they feel, what they want, and become someone who can hold that understanding in the face of social pressure and social expectation; to help the individual respond from a more balanced perspective day-to-day.

The impacts of trauma rewire the brain and nervous system to experience the world as a threatening place. This adaptation alters how we relate to ourselves and others, and it leads us away from authentic identity. Trauma, whether big or small, includes events like past childhood abuse, emotional neglect, violence, grief, rejection, chronic pain and illness, to name a few. You may become stressed, anxious, experience intrusive thoughts, fear, and rage. You may feel alone, easily triggered, trapped, and like there’s a void within—like you just can’t be yourself again. Yet, you have no clue that it all stems from unprocessed trauma.

You might be down or anxious, or perhaps, as a parent, you are worried about a child or teenager. Maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Perhaps you are burdened by fear, guilt, feel unmotivated, or feel hopeless. Perhaps something traumatic has overwhelmed you. Perhaps you are afraid or socially anxious or lack motivation. Maybe you are struggling at work, and you are not sure how to change things. Perhaps you don't know how to set goals or achieve them. Perhaps you feel sad, or feel overwhelmed by grief or loss. Perhaps you are angry.

How can I find a therapist in Ottawa?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
