I have experience working with trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, addictions, neurodivergence (autism), body dysmorphia and more.
Together we will go to the roots of your challenges. We will use cognitive processing techniques (CBT) to get at the thought structures that are keeping you stuck. We will then go to emotional processing work to release the painful emotion and thoughts.

If you’ve tried general talk therapy and found it didn’t quite address the OCD cycle, you’re not alone. OCD requires a specific, structured approach. My style is collaborative, practical, and steady. We’ll move at a pace that challenges you while helping you build confidence in handling intrusive thoughts.

We all confront difficult challenges in life. We all go through times when our deepest fears and insecurities surface and consume our thoughts and actions, while our strengths and values fade out of focus and out of reach. We may be flooded with unwanted and worrisome thoughts; experience intense negative emotions; feel lonely and isolated from others, become increasingly unmotivated and unproductive; and develop difficulties sleeping, concentrating, and finding fulfillment in life. If you are going through a period of suffering, this is part of what makes you human.

I work with clients who find themselves stuck by anxiety, OCD, or perfectionism.
The tightness in your chest, knots in your stomach and the stories your mind tells you have been getting out of hand lately. Your efforts to control your anxiety haven’t been working the way you’d like, and you’re left feeling like you just want to run away. Fear of making mistakes, saying the wrong thing, hesitating to take on new challenges, and the discomfort of feeling out of place have become too much. Common sense methods like trying to be rational or think positively only make it worse. Anxiety is holding you back from being the person you wish to be.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
