Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists in Ottawa, ON

I work collaboratively with each client to deliver a unique treatment plan which may include Attachment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Traumatic Incident Reduction Therapy, and Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Therapy.
I provide a non-judgmental, confidential and empathetic space where you will be guided in sharing what troubles you, and anything else you choose to discuss. Therapy can be a shorter process, focused on “fixing” a particular issue. Or it can be a deeper exploration of oneself.

My collaborative approach with clients is designed to meet their specific goals, utilizing a range of therapeutic orientations, such as client-centered, somatic experiencing, emotion-focused therapy, family systems, attachment theory, mindfulness, and existential therapy.
It takes courage to begin taking steps toward starting therapy. Has your life become too overwhelming and stressful to manage alone? Are you nervous, grieving and feeling down? I have been there, too, and feeling anxious and afraid is normal. As your therapist, I will walk with you by creating a supportive environment where we can share openly and address your concerns. I want to help you, especially if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, or life transitions and have recently immigrated. If you are open to working with me, we could develop a personalized treatment plan aligning with your goals.

Hi! I'm Liz. These past few years have been heavy for so many of us, and you’re not alone if you’ve felt the weight of it. Maybe you’ve been holding everything together for everyone else, trying to stay strong and keep going, but deep down you feel like you’re just existing rather than truly living. If you’re tired, overwhelmed, or feeling disconnected from yourself or your relationships, this might be the time to consider reaching out for support.

Drawing from approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Mindfulness based interventions, I aim to help clients explore what lies beneath anxiety or exhaustion and reconnect with who they truly want to be.
Sometimes the ways we’ve learned to cope with life’s challenges, through achievement, perfectionism, or emotional avoidance, can quietly pull us away from the authentic, connected life we truly want. We all share a basic human need to belong; to be understood by others and feel at ease within ourselves. Yet feelings like anxiety and self-doubt can leave us feeling disconnected, or wondering why we feel like we're falling short despite doing so much. I understand how exhausting it can be to appear confident and composed on the outside while struggling on the inside. Therapy is a space where you don’t have to hold it all together.

Mindfulness helped to change my life, and I'm here to show you how it can help you too.
Your mind is constantly telling you that you need to do more, but it's hard just to get out of bed in the morning. Chronic pain makes everyday tasks really hard. Everyone around you seems normal and you wonder how they have it all together. Maybe family and friends are supportive, but you worry about being a burden. Or maybe your life is good on paper and nobody sees your struggles, nobody sees your pain. As someone who has lived with chronic pain and anxiety, I know how hard life can get. I understand how isolating it can all be.

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
