People bring to therapy the fulI range of human problems: from feeling overwhelmed to more everyday concerns, from unsatisfactory or conflictual interpersonal relationships to troublesome habits, impulsivity, low sense of self-worth, self-doubt, or feelings of personal stagnation, and the two most common presenting issues: depression and debilitating levels of anxiety. Therapy is effortful; its success is undergirded by a supportive relationship with a therapist, and is built on collaboration guided by evidence-based therapeutic conversations that work to help you make sense your experiences, process hard feelings and more.

Therapy may help us explore whatever we have encountered along the path. I work with individuals 18 and above who would like to explore paths previously travelled while developing strategies for wellness on the journey forward. My goal is to walk with you for a time, to co-create a space to reflect, learn and grow, guided by the expertise of your own experiences.

Currently accepting new clients! You might be feeling disconnected from yourself, like there are too many things out of your control right now, or are feeling overwhelmed. If this is you please take comfort in knowing change is possible. Through therapy, I can help you understand the thoughts, feelings, triggers, and stressors going on for you right now. I can also help you understand the body sensations that accompany these, like tension in your body, stomach aches, or breathing fast. In therapy I can help you reconnect to yourself. By doing this, you will learn more about yourself, so you can start to heal and grow.

There comes a time when we suppress our emotions down the drain. However, in the long run, feelings of stress, anxiety and overwhelmed will begin to pile up. We cannot run away from our emotions, but rather learn to accept our emotions, become self-aware and develop the correct tools to cope with them. Together, we will process your emotions and challenges while creating greater insights of yourself. I am committed to providing you with a safe space and supporting you at your own pace.

I offer assessment, therapy, and consultation services to adults and couples contending with a range of challenges related to adjustment to significant life events and transitions, anxiety, depression, end-of-life considerations, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, post-traumatic stress, and treatment adherence. While I emphasize an experiential (i.e., emotion-focused, mindfulness-based) approach to therapy, integrated within interpersonal and systems frameworks, I am also able to draw on cognitive-behavioural techniques.

I have been working in Social services for over 30 years; over 20 in private practice. I enjoy using the eclectic combinations of modalities that I have learned. In general I find that as humans, our minds cause us a great deal of suffering. Learning to understand our minds so that we can change the negative scripts that keep us stuck in the same patterns is the greatest gift I have to offer. It is only then that we can experience our full potential of happiness and fulfillment in life. I use a client-centred approach. My practice welcomes the diversity of all humans.

I help people regulate emotions and have enriching relationships with themselves and others. Struggles with self esteem & confidence, navigating interpersonal relationships, anxiety & stress, finding relief from PTSD & trauma are some of the areas I work with. I also help those who feel confused with their work or life path. You are unique, and your therapy should reflect this. I tailor sessions to your distinct needs! What makes me different as a therapist? I am refreshingly active and creative in session. My clients feel heard, seen, and appreciated as I am always present with them. I also interject humour therapeutically.

Hello, I'm Thanh (pronounced Tang)! I work with clients who are struggling with their mental health by drawing their strengths and helping them develop greater resiliency. Issues my clients tend to face are stress, anxiety, major transition periods in life, past trauma, grief, mood disorders (such as depression), relationship problems, communication and social skills, and/or low self-esteem. Together, we collaborate to build habits and systems in response to life's challenges, and build a life that clients enjoy living rather than letting the days pass by.

Individuals carry a large load of worries and responsibilities on a daily basis. The weight often becomes overwhelming over time and will interfere in our ways of thinking, feeling and dealing with life challenges. Some of the goals in psychotherapy are to move past the feelings of anxiety and hopelessness and to gain mastery in what may be perceived as unresolvable initially. For many, psychotherapy also contributes in developing a happier and more meaningful life.

How can I find a therapist in Ottawa?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
