I believe that we all experience challenges and yet through insight, compassion and action we are able to grow and transform. I work with clients to build coping and resiliency while exploring sources of distress to confidently confront life’s struggles. I integrate cultural sensitivity that takes into consideration clients’ marginalized identities and the complexity this may add-should clients wish to explore and incorporate this into counselling. I have worked with individuals wanting to heal from a traumatic past or finding their path, and couples feeling stuck in dysfunction or wanting to heal from
infidelity
.

I specialize working intensively with couples discouraged by constant arguing, feelings of
betrayal
, or a lack of intimacy, both emotional and physical. My work is focused on helping clients develop safe, and secure-functioning relationships by knowing who they are, where they have come from, and how their early attachment histories impact their adult life. The more they understand each other, the easier they can repair moments of disconnect. My goal is to help each couple feel safe and secure no matter the issue, and to develop a clear framework so they will know how to move forward as a team. I am a Level 11 PACT therapist.

Expectations are often the starting point for relationships. However, as your relationship develops, your wants, needs, and attractions shift in response to the new circumstances. As a consequence, you could run into challenges such as losing the spark or the new relationship energy,
infidelity
, issues connected to monogamy or nonmonogamy, difficulty articulating your needs, or sexual difficulties. These problems could have a negative impact on both of you and on your relationship. Your relationship with yourself, the partner or partners you have, and your sexual life can all be negatively impacted by unresolved trauma.

You might also try to manage this discontent with sexual
affairs
, compulsive pornography use, or find yourself in rollercoaster relationships, always sure you will stop next time but quickly find yourself there again.
You grew up in an unstable, chaotic, disconnected, or enmeshed home and now find intimacy, trust, and connection difficult in romantic relationships and friendships, as well as with yourself. You stay up at night, feeling anxious about how you relate or don’t relate to others, things you have said and done, blaming yourself. You want friends and partners who can understand you and be there for you but you also don’t know how to do these things. You might feel as if it is a lost cause, so you bottle this up and get up in the morning to keep going, putting on your mask of being fine.

How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
