I have a very special interest in anxiety related disorders, which includes obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), hoarding, phobias, body-focused repetitive disorders (BFRBs - hair pulling, skin picking), social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and agoraphobia.
Life can be challenging. Change can be difficult. Knowing which steps to take to get unstuck can be overwhelming. Having someone to lean on for support and guidance could make this process more manageable. That’s what I’m here for! Whether you’re here today because you’re juggling multiple roles, struggling to get out of bed or be around other people, trying to adapt to a new life after a painful loss, dealing with conflict in close relationships, or lacking a general purpose or direction, this could be your first step towards living the life you want.

Do you often feel overwhelmed, stressed, or caught in a cycle of worry without fully understanding why? You're not alone, and there's a reason it feels this way. Our brains naturally seek out what's familiar, even when it adds to our stress. In times of chaos, we tend to fall back on old patterns that no longer serve us, leaving us feeling stuck and exhausted. I'm here to help you alter that. Healing isn’t always easy, but with the right tools, guidance, and support, it is possible. As a dedicated registered psychotherapist, I’m committed to offering a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where meaningful change can happen.

Welcome! Making the choice to engage in therapy requires courage, however it can be an empowering and positive experience towards a more fulfilling life. Over the past 14 years I have integrated my training and work in clinical and agency settings to offer counselling to clients looking to improve their mental wellness and overall functioning. Some clients report feeling ready when they cannot eliminate feelings like they are "facing an uphill battle" or that they are "overwhelmed" by daily life stressors and need support.

I help adults struggling with anxiety, depression and adaptation to life challenges and losses. My focus is on creating a warm, non-judgemental and safe environment where you can unpack your painful experiences and examine emotions, thoughts and behaviours that might contribute to your suffering and isolation. My goal in psychotherapy is to help you to find balance and wholeness by accepting and incorporating all authentic parts of yourself, including shadows. A painful experience is an opportunity to wake up from familiar negative patterns and change them once and for all.

Hoarding Counsellors

What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?

Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?

The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?

Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
