Mental health can be especially challenging to understand because it isn't something you can see like an external physical injury. If feelings of being stuck or out-of-control, or the sense that life is spiraling downhill somehow seem familiar, they might just stem from poor mental wellbeing. We'll work together using evidence-based psychotherapy to improve your quality of life and help you get back on track. I always encourage clients to book an initial 15 minutes complimentary session so we can determine together if psychotherapy can help you, and even if not, always provide you with plenty of other resources better suited.

Currently accepting new clients! I offer a free 20 min. video or phone consultation for new clients. I utilize a relational psychodynamic approach in working with clients in order to facilitate change and achieve the the best therapeutic outcomes. I strongly believe empathy and compassion are key components in the success of the therapeutic process, and I always offer a space where clients can feel heard, secure and validated. At the same time, I believe that through a relational approach, clients can gain profound insight into unconscious relationship patterns.

Hello. Many people are negatively affected by anxiety and depression. However it's sometimes difficult to figure out why. Similarly many people find relationships difficult and complicated. Both psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) offer quick, effective ways to cut through symptoms and understand what is underlying our challenges. My work often employs short-term techniques, exploring thoughts and feelings around relationships, self-esteem or historical trauma, using a focussed and directed, but nurturing approach. I also offer long-term therapy when we need extra time to explore more complex issues.

My philosophy is Existential, meaning that we are free and therefore responsible for our choices, We are the authors of our lives, and we design the pathways we follow. My basic premise is that we are not victims of circumstance because, to a large extent, we are what we choose to be. Life is a cycle of transitions and experiences, presenting opportunities and challenges. Often the most important life lessons comes from our suffering. My aim is to assist people to develop their meaning and purpose, by encouraging them to explore options, in order to achieve a more meaningful existence.

Welcome! Making the choice to engage in therapy requires courage, however it can be an empowering and positive experience towards a more fulfilling life. I have integrated my training and work in clinical and agency settings to offer counselling to clients looking to improve their mental wellness and overall functioning. Some clients report feeling ready when they cannot eliminate feelings like they are "facing an uphill battle" or that they are "overwhelmed" by daily life stressors and need support.

WELCOMING NEW CLIENTS. I strive to create a safe and non-judgemental space in which clients can address any of their concerns. Life can be extremely difficult at times but that doesn't mean you have to stay stuck in the same patterns or cycles that can seem impossible to break. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, low mood, or are struggling in everyday life, this can quickly become overwhelming and exhausting. I believe that everyone has the capability within themselves to effectuate change. Sometimes it takes a little guidance and reflection to help you move closer to your values and the life you want to live.

Hoarding Counsellors

What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?

Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?

The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?

Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
