Supporting clients navigating challenges in their lives, such as grief , attachments and self-identity/actualization is what I am passionate about. Sensitively, I navigate the ways mental health or life challenges can interfere with relationships; and the corresponding family dissolution and spiritual deconstruction that can arise along the journey. Additionally, I enjoy working with young adults navigating unique barriers that arise from every day life (2SLGBTQ inclusive); and I have extensive experience in supporting individuals/couples/families with grief , perinatal mental wellbeing, relationship breakdowns & eating disorders.

My practice areas include dying, death , grief and bereavement , palliative care, chronic illness, stress and burnout, loss , and life transitions.
Grief counselling is my specialty. The death of a loved one is so hard and you don't have to grieve alone. I work collaboratively, at the clients pace, providing a safe non-judgmental space for clients to be heard and to support them in drawing upon their own strengths in order to mourn well. My professional experiences stem from working as a Social Worker and a Therapist for over 25 years in hospice palliative care, community organizations, and in private practice. I work with both adults and children (children up to the age of 11). I also provide counselling for those caring for a loved one at the end of life.

I have training and experience working with people navigating difficult life transitions, living through grief , healing from abuse and trauma, and coping with depression, anxiety, and sleep issues.
Each one of us deserves a relationship in which we feel deeply heard with warmth and compassion.  I hold respect for the stories and journeys of people’s lives and understand that life events, relational difficulties, or mental health concerns can significantly impact our ability to feel steady, connected, and whole. It is my hope that through focused and purposeful conversations, the people that I work with can move towards lasting and meaningful change in their lives and find their way.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
