If you are going through a separation or divorce, you are probably concerned about the effect on your children. This can be a difficult time for them. Children’s emotions may go through stages and change. Your child may feel sad, confused, angry, guilty or worried about what will happen to them. How you handle the changes will be important for your child’s well-being. This is where I can help. I have over 27 years of experience working with children and families with a particular focus at this point in my career, on separation and divorce and the resulting impact on the

My practice is informed by an Integrated Mental Health perspective, which always considers the individual's mental, emotional, and physical health, as well as their connection to
family
, friends, and community, and their personal sense of purpose in life as being important to ongoing resilience and well-being.
I have many years of experience working with individuals and families who are dealing with a wide range of issues which we can all experience during our lifetimes. This has provided me with learning opportunities that allow me to see your experiences in the perspective of your individual situation, the supports you have in place, and the contributing factors to the level of your distress. I work with difficult life challenges, such as mental health challenges, painful and traumatic experiences, grief and loss, separation/ divorce, reconciliation, parenting concerns, victims of abuse and violence, and work/life stressors.

Life can be full of stress, with some days being more overwhelming than others. It can be difficult to look inwards and realize that the skills and behaviours we have been using to cope with stress are not as effective as they used to be. Through this inward reflection, you have recognized that something needs to change and I congratulate you on doing so. This recognition can come with uncertainty about how to develop different ways to overcome the challenges that life presents us. Together we will navigate difficulties with negative emotions, disruptive behaviours, or
family
conflict and work towards making a positive change!

I provide individual, couple, and
family therapy
working from integrative systemic, evidence-based, and male-centered approaches.
I often wonder why there is so much pain and suffering. I realized that what we need is not homeostasis or a tensionless state. Instead, we need the right amount of tension for change, growth, and development to take place. I had the privilege to journey with people facing different aspects of the human condition (suffering, grief, loss, meaninglessness, etc.) I am often amazed by human determination, courage, and strength in the process toward growth and development as they face life challenges. Life is full of challenges and adversity; it would be a privilege to journey with you toward a meaningful and purpose-driven life.

Research towards my book "Multidimensional Healing" soon to be published by Austin Macauley revealed that unresolved childhood trauma underlies many common mental, emotional & physical health issues such as PTSD, HDD, anxiety, depression, chronic hypertension & auto-immune diseases. Therefore, I have trained in the trauma resolution methods EMDR, Internal
Family
Systems & Somatic Experiencing designed to reactivate embodied psychic trauma & facilitate its release. These methods are life-changing when they release the trauma blocking the flow of vitality, love and well-being.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
