A confidential, caring and compassionate therapeutic
relationship
is important for you to comfortably be able to share the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and
relationship
issues that have been most distressing for you.
Too often one of the most difficult first steps in working through life challenges, whether large or small, is to acknowledge the need for support and to seek out the help that you need. My work with adolescents, adults and
couples
has been to accompany them on a journey that involves building a toolset designed to navigate their particular challenges. I see clients struggling to cope with a range of issues related to depression and mood, anxiety, gender and sexuality, fertility and adoption, different types of relationships and sexual problems (e.g., arousal, desire, orgasm, pain), and stress associated with everyday life matters.

Life can be full of stress, with some days being more overwhelming than others. It can be difficult to look inwards and realize that the skills and behaviours we have been using to cope with stress are not as effective as they used to be. Through this inward reflection, you have recognized that something needs to change and I congratulate you on doing so. This recognition can come with uncertainty about how to develop different ways to overcome the challenges that life presents us. Together we will navigate difficulties with negative emotions, disruptive behaviours, or family conflict and work towards making a positive change!

Having worked with
couples
for over 23 years, I am convinced that a safe and secure
relationship
is the foundation for a full and happy life.
I specialize working intensively with
couples
discouraged by constant arguing, feelings of betrayal, or a lack of intimacy, both emotional and physical. My work is focused on helping clients develop safe, and secure-functioning relationships by knowing who they are, where they have come from, and how their early attachment histories impact their adult life. The more they understand each other, the easier they can repair moments of disconnect. My goal is to help each couple feel safe and secure no matter the issue, and to develop a clear framework so they will know how to move forward as a team. I am a Level 11 PACT therapist.

Whether it's your first time seeking support or you're familiar with the therapeutic process, research says that one of the biggest factors in your success is the connection and
relationship
you have with your therapist.
Are all these profiles starting to look the same after a while? Therapy doesn't have to be stuffy and outdated. Therapy is raw and real. No pretenses. If you are looking for an empathetic, evidence-based but no-nonsense approach to addressing your concerns you've come to the right place. Together we can work on a single issue or many complicated ones. We'll move at the pace you are comfortable with and keep your goals at the forefront.

I offer assessment, therapy, and consultation services to adults and
couples
contending with a range of challenges related to adjustment to significant life events and transitions, anxiety, depression, end-of-life considerations, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, post-traumatic stress, and treatment adherence. While I emphasize an experiential (i.e., emotion-focused, mindfulness-based) approach to therapy, integrated within interpersonal and systems frameworks, I am also able to draw on cognitive-behavioural techniques.

There is a powerful healing that occurs when we allow ourselves to not only feel what we need to feel, but also to shift our
relationship
with our internal experiences.
You are a strong woman. It's something you can take pride in. You've been through hell and back more times than you can count. And you've lived to tell the tale. You're so giving of yourself to others, that you end up finishing last, and self-care tends to be what falls off the never-ending to-do list, making it impossible for you to get to. And perhaps now you're confronted with the reality that it's all too overwhelming. And you'd like for the world to just stop for a moment, just so you can have a little break. With more than a decade of experience, I've made it my mission to train and acquire the best possible tools.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
