I originate from a Northern Ontario community but have been happily settled in the Ottawa area for over 20 years. I am a bilingual (fluent in French and English), Social Worker and it has been my great pleasure to work in the field of mental health social work with Children, Youth and Adults since 2006. I believe that everyone runs into challenges in their life that they shouldn't be expected to resolve alone and I am happy to be there to guide them on their road to recovery. Lets work together to re-establish fulfillment in your life.

We live in a world that often doesn't recognize who we are, especially if you are queer, trans, neurodivergent. Whether you are one of those, or all three, I am right there with you. You might be wondering who you are or you might already know. You might have experienced trauma. You might be dealing with organizational challenges, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, and issues with your family of origin. You might be an individual, a monogamous couple, or in a non-monogamous relationship configuration. Wading through all of these issues can be difficult at the best of times, but I am here to help.

I am a a a queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, feminist, and cisgender white woman. I am committed to anti-oppression, social justice, and the self-reflection and lifelong unlearning this requires. I have been practicing social work since 2012 with a focus on issues related to queer and trans folks, body neutrality, harm reduction, and body-based trauma recovery modalities. I am most excited about working with queer and trans folks, neurodiverse folks, non-monogamous folks, and those looking to utilize EMDR for trauma recovery.

You? You're probably awestruck by the beauty of this world but also heart-broken by the cruelty of some of the people in it, and enraged at the injustice. Maybe you have unimaginably intense emotions that you struggle to surf, a quick mind but difficulties connecting with others, creative impulses you can't quite express (or not as fluidly as you used to), or are in a relationship where one of you is a POC and the other isn't and you're just trying to make your crazy love work. You might be a healthcare provider needing to replenish your own well, or a therapist seeking an empowering clinical supervisor.

It can be difficult to simply be in the world right now, on top of whatever unique stressors you may be facing. Though it may be easy to convince yourself that your problems are insignificant or bearable, everyone needs a place to be heard and supported. My role as a therapist is not to analyze, pathologize or label you. Instead, my role is to be curious about the meaning you give to your experiences and to ask questions that may help you to shift your outlook on the challenges you’re facing.

You may find yourself here because you are looking for some guidance, support, or help. My aim is to provide a safe, warm, and supportive environment for you to examine and recover from any stress, grief, or trauma in your life. I work from a trauma informed lens, acknowledging that life experiences shape who we are and the way we experience the world. I focus on harm reduction, aiming to increase safety, and help build coping skills that can replace patterns that no longer serve you. Exploring why we do things, and what we might be able to do instead, is often easier with company, and I would be honored to join you on your journey.

Hello, I’m Hannah! I am a queer, feminist, cisgender woman, and have been practicing social work with children, youth, adults, and families since 2007. I’ve spent the last eleven years working with 2SLGBTQ+ communities all over Ontario, but my home base is the unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory of Odawa (Ottawa). My approach to therapy is grounded in social justice and anti-oppression, and guided by narrative, feminist, and somatic experiencing frameworks.

Do you people-please, self-sacrifice or feel disconnected from your true self? I help those with low self-esteem, PTSD, or relationship trauma to prioritize their needs, befriend their emotions, and find their inner voice. I strive not to hide behind a facade of professionalism, authority, or rigid treatments — I greatly value authenticity and aim always to be real with my clients. I have seen first-hand how individuals flourish when given the chance to explore and reframe their life stories. I hope that together we might create a space that is kind, genuine and yours, where you too can engage in this daring and valuable work.

I offer a safe and non-judgmental space to discuss concerns arising in the context of everyday life and relationships. It can be a relief to voice thoughts and feelings openly to an understanding ear. Many clients find the stress of life significantly affecting their wellbeing and they want some counsel on how to either get back on track, or work toward the peace and ease we hope to achieve by living more authentically. When indicated, I also offer tools and therapies to help target and recover from symptoms of mental illness.

How can I find a therapist in Ottawa?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
