I work with teens and adults from diverse backgrounds facing a range of challenges, including depression, grief, relationship issues, and anxiety.
Sometimes we are faced with challenges that can make it hard to live the life we want. In these difficult periods, therapy can provide an opportunity to connect with another person, explore the problems you may be facing, and figure out a path forward that works for you. My priority is creating a safe space between me and my clients, which means I approach every person and problem with respect, compassion, and without judgement. Regardless of how you feel right now, you (yes, you!) have strengths, expertise, and valuable experiences that I’m here to help you unearth, reclaim, or explore.

If you feel as though you're in a constant battle with your sleep - whether it's with anxious thoughts, hypervigilance, or feeling as though your body is stuck in a hyperaroused (stress) state, I'm here to help.
Having your life disrupted by insomnia isn’t just physically exhausting. It’s mentally and emotionally draining too. Maybe you’ve made big changes to your life, like cutting out socializing or juggling endless sleep aids and routines (that don’t even work). It’s common to feel lonely and misunderstood. You may also feel confused about some of the physical symptoms happening in your body. I understand what you’re going through because I struggled with insomnia for 5 difficult years. While they were the hardest years of my life, I want you to know there is hope. You can absolutely get back to sleeping and feeling like yourself again.

As addiction and substance use are complex issues, much of our sessions include skills-building, relapse prevention, identification of triggers and addressing underlying issues like depression, stress and anxiety.
Have you been experiencing feelings of sadness, fear, guilt or shame? Is your life being negatively impacted by stress, relationships problems, or self-destructive behaviors? If so, I can help. How we experience and respond to life’s challenges has a lot to do with how we perceive them and this is shaped by our past experiences. With a deeper understanding of (and compassion for) yourself and some tools, you will feel a sense of relief and strength to be able to deal with whatever has been troubling you. My goal is for you to feel seen, safe and heard on your journey.

The difficulty is when we feel stuck – either in a particular mood state (such as depression or anxiety), in our reactions to triggers, or in our relationships.
Based on my training and experience in body-based psychotherapy, such as Somatic Experiencing, I believe the body informs us if we listen. Through increasing bodily awareness and deepened cognitive insight, you will find new ways to be in relationship with yourself and others.

I work with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety or trauma related to their childhood, relationships or grief.
These past few years have been heavy for so many of us, and you’re not alone if you’ve felt the weight of it. Maybe you’ve been holding everything together for everyone else, trying to stay strong and keep going, but deep down you feel like you’re just existing rather than truly living. If you’re tired, overwhelmed, or feeling disconnected from yourself or your relationships, this might be the time to consider reaching out for support.

I have extensive experience with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues.
Eating disorders are very rarely "just" eating disorders. There are underlying causes, and often appear with co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, obsessive/compulsive behaviours, grief, low self-esteem/body image, perfectionism, substance abuse, and relationship issues. I take a holistic approach to healing all contributing issues.

In my practice, I help you discover that anxiety and negative thinking don’t have to rule your life.
If you are an “over” person - an overthinker, overwhelmed, or overworked - then you are one of the people I work with best. You are hard on yourself, “self-care” is confusing or guilt-inducing, you can get paralyzed by intense feelings, stuck in negative thought spirals, or find yourself shutting down. You may have been wondering for a long time how to turn off negative thoughts or let go of things you can’t change. The constant weight of what you believe you “should” be doing can feel immobilizing, and the endless fight against the “what ifs” is exhausting. It may feel impossible to move on or let go of negativity or trauma.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
