Substance use, trauma and mental health issues can put a significant dent in someone's quality of life. From simply being uncomfortable with how much you are using, or how it is affecting your life, to wishing you could shut your brain or your memories off; to being suicidal or at risk of overdose. You don't need to do this alone. Talking to someone who has seen and helped others with these things can be immensely relieving. If your teenager is going through these problems, it is also relieving to know they are talking to someone about them. Trying to parent a teenager while they are going through this chaos can be challenging.

I am passionate about supporting parents as they navigate the child, adolescent , and teen years. These are some of the most important and rewarding years, but also can be the most challenging. Parents often feel lost as to what is going on with their children and how to support them and can often struggle to allow themselves the same care and validation that they want for their children. I have spent the last 5 years working with families and supporting parents by providing the insight and understanding they need to better cope with the ups and downs of parenting.

Whether you are struggling at work, at home, or internally, therapy can help you find wellness and develop resilience. If you are dealing with depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, grief, or stress and burnout, consider reaching out. I aim to make sure you feel heard in a safe space, void of judgement, and conscious of biopsychosocial background. I welcome new clients who have never considered therapy before and those who are looking for the right therapist. I also work with couples and families. Outside of my therapeutic practice, I am on a board of directors of a non-profit organization that focuses on men's issues.

Teen Counsellors
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Ottawa and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
