I have worked in the mental health field for over 6 years and thoroughly enjoy what I do! I specialize in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and have a background in
Parent
Management Training (PMT) and techniques.
Life isn't always easy. In fact, there are many moments in life where we are left wondering how we are ever going to overcome the adversity we are faced with and sometimes we just need a little bit of help. By working together, we can explore and develop a deeper understanding of where you may feel stuck in your life, while working towards a place of growth and healing. Using a non-judgmental, client-centered approach, my focus is on creating a safe space where clients feel validated, supported and understood.

parent

Maybe you're here because you are struggling in your primary relationship; having the same old arguments with your partner, feeling disconnected & longing for more intimacy, or dealing with a difficult life event, such as a betrayal. Perhaps you're looking for help because you are feeling stressed out, anxious, and are tired of being so hard on yourself. Or maybe you're having a difficult time relating to family members or friends - feeling misunderstood by parents, feeling at sea with how to relate to your kids, or not developing the meaningful friendships you hoped for. The focus of my work is helping people with relationships.

The transition to parenthood can be exciting, but can also bring on feelings of anxiety, overwhelm and doubt, and many mothers feel isolated, exhausted and alone. As moms, we've been there: struggling to conceive, postpartum anxiety, the desire to do everything “right”, the constant worry about baby and wondering if what you're feeling is normal. We work with individuals and couples in all phases of life, with a strong focus on the fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and
parenting
periods, and have received extensive Maternal Mental Health training and certification from Postpartum Support International in Perinatal Mental Health.

My name is Michelle and I created The Relationship Agency because I know that we all do better when we have authentic, insightful, and secure relationships. Most couples who come to me are dealing with frequent arguing, a lack of trust, and a feeling like they don't know each other at all. They wonder where the love is gone and don't know what to do. When ADHD is present, they're fighting over the mess around the house,
parenting
, and everything in between and living with deep stress, sadness, and anxiety. My individual clients struggle with big life questions and the impacts of ADHD, they're trying their best but underperforming.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
