Whatever the concern, my clients are seeking professional support, to feel cared for and understood, to facilitate their ability to cope with their current situation, and desire someone to come alongside them as they determine how to go on. The clients I see are suffering from the weight of mental illness, feeling in the dark places of depression, the restlessness of anxiety, the inescapability of trauma, the helplessness with chronic pain, as well as other debilitating emotional challenges. I also see couples who are facing disruption in their connection, as well as clients adjusting to various changes in their lives.

I work with highly sensitive people (HSPs) who feel overwhelmed due to physical, emotional or social sensitivities. You may want to work together if: You want to have a better sense of who you are; You feel deeply that things are amiss but don't know what; You are aware of your challenges but don't know how to take action or You are nervous about change. As an HSP, I personally understand the weight of feeling “too much” in a seemingly insensitive world.

Fighting over the same thing, feeling distant and disconnect, or like you don't know each other at all? Are you wondering where the love has gone and don't know what to do? If ADHD is present, you're probably fighting over the mess around the house, parenting, and everything in between and living with deep stress, sadness, and anxiety. My individual clients struggle with big life questions and the impacts of ADHD. They're trying their best but underperforming. They constantly feel overwhelmed and exhausted, and can't decide about work, relationships, or what they want out of life.

My own life experiences have led me on this journey. Since I can remember I have always had a heart to see people living the life they were meant to live and witness that potential in those that choose to work with me. I have been led to work in many parts of the world from India, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Malawi and right here in Toronto and the Durham Region directly with underprivileged, homeless or at-risk youth, survivors of human trafficking, people from different developmental stages and life transitions including seniors in long-term care. Sometimes things happen in life and we do not know how to unpack everything ourselves.

Before pursuing psychotherapy and counseling, I spent over ten years working with children/youth in the foster care system. There I gained experience working with individuals with complex trauma, FASD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. My area’s of interest include religious trauma, navigating anxiety and depression, grief processing, identity formation, emotional regulation, and self-esteem.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
