Somatic Therapists in Orillia, ON
My approach tends to be a blend of psychodynamic, parts work (IFS), relational therapy, EMDR, somatic work, and mindfulness-based approaches.
As a former police officer and registered nurse in emergency psychiatry, I have both lived and professional experience in recovery from chronic workplace trauma exposure, understand unique challenges faced in these high-stress roles, awareness of first responder culture, and understand the sometimes painful family legacies of first responders.

I use evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Somatic Experiencing, and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) to make therapy fit your needs.
Do you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected? Perhaps you're quietly unraveling inside, constantly in fight or flight mode?
Stress, trauma, burnout, relationship struggles, or a sense of identity loss can all leave you exhausted. If your daily life is frustrating and unmanageable, you are not alone. At the end of the day, it's time to get back to basics: establish healthy boundaries, stop people pleasing, and learn to control strong emotions so you can recharge.
Therapy provides an environment for healing, growth, and self-discovery. Change can be difficult to manage on your own, but you don't have to go it alone.

Life's hardest moments rarely affect just one person—they ripple through families, friendships, and the relationships that matter most. Perhaps you've experienced a traumatic event, the sudden loss of someone you love, a serious accident, or years of carrying the weight of complex trauma. Maybe you're trying to support a child, partner, parent, or sibling living with anxiety, depression, addiction, or thoughts of suicide, and you're finding yourself overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure of how to help while also caring for yourself.

Relationships can be our greatest source of joy, and our deepest pain when they begin to struggle. We all long to feel loved, appreciated, and respected. When connections begin to break down, our sense of stability can suffer, often leading to heartache, disconnection, and isolation. As a relational therapist, I am passionate about helping people restore connection and understanding in their relationships. I support clients navigating relationship conflict or breakdowns, neurodiversity, non-traditional relationship structures, including non-monogamy, intimacy concerns, divorce, affair recovery, and complex friend or family dynamics.

I work with adults and couples who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or caught in painful relationship patterns. Some are in constant conflict, questioning how their relationship became so hard. Others feel unsafe, unseen, or unsure where to begin. I believe slow, intentional work can create lasting change, and that the last thing you need is more judgement or shame. Together, we can figure out what you need, how to manage overwhelming emotions, and how to feel more confident not only in the skills you have, but also in your understanding of yourself and others.

My most recent trainings have focused on trauma, grief, and somatic approaches.
I am a psychotherapist and a lawyer—and, long before I was either, I was a student of people. As a therapist, I work with adults and couples dealing with relationships, anxiety, depression, life transitions and the messy business of being human. I believe good therapy goes beyond feeling better in the short run. Understanding ourselves can change how we navigate life going forward: why we react as we do, how our histories shape us, what matters to us, and what we might choose to do differently. For that reason, I value working with people willing to look honestly at themselves, explore the deeper story and make change.

I use somatic therapy in all my sessions to support the nervous system and heal attachment injuries.
Each time you feel let down, disappointed, discouraged or despondent it’s not permanent. There’s another breath of air where you can exhale that feeling, shake out your body and know that you have another chance to heal, to grow and to transform. Even after the same mistakes or misgivings, you are not the same. You’ve learned something. You’re not the same person each time you get caught doing the same thing over again. It’s okay to be learning. Growth is painful as we let go of the old ways of being, the old destructive thoughts and allow new ways of being to take root.

I draw on mindfulness, somatic awareness, and strengths-based practices to support emotional processing and resilience.
I work with individuals and couples who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in painful patterns, or frustrated that the same struggles keep repeating. Many are thoughtful, capable people who appear to manage life well while internally struggling with anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, loneliness, ADHD, trauma, or relationship stress. My approach is grounded in truly listening and understanding what lies beneath the surface. Together, we explore the patterns and experiences keeping you stuck and work toward meaningful, lasting change—not just managing symptoms, but helping you feel more connected, understood, and able to move forward.

Motherhood can crack things open. You may be caring for a new baby while recovering from a hard birth, anxiety, or a quiet loss of who you used to be. For many moms, parts of your own childhood surface in unexpected ways often alongside a deep sense of loneliness.
I work with women navigating birth trauma, postpartum anxiety, and identity shifts in motherhood. Many of my clients feel stuck replaying their birth experience or disconnected from their bodies and sense of self.
Our work focuses on healing at the root so this chapter can be integrated into your story, not something you carry alone.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
