My approach centres around evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioural therapy and emotion-focused therapy, while also incorporating mindfulness and
attachment-based
interventions.
It is my passion to support individuals and couples through therapy by creating an accepting and warm environment that promotes healing, connection, and greater self-knowledge. Through my work in psychotherapy, I have come to believe that even within the most difficult experiences and circumstances, each individual has a truly profound capacity for resilience.

I provide therapy support for women, teens, and preteens struggling with a variety of mental health issues. Many of my clients may come in for anxiety or depression symptoms but have underlying attachment based patterns and an inner attachment with themselves that is broken and hurting. I work with other presenting issues such as grief and loss, self-harm, eating disorders, ADHD and interpersonal issues. I also works with clients who are living with post-concussion struggles. I can provide faith-based counselling if requested.

When was the last time you felt like yourself- that you felt creative, wild, bold, gritty, or vibrant? Past memories, old beliefs, and old stories about ourselves have often developed because there was a time when we needed them, to help keep us safe. While they often do keep us safe in some ways, they also keep us from discovering what we are truly capable of, from feeling connected to our values, our inner knowledge, our purpose, and from recognizing our own inherent worthiness.

You’ve noticed your child’s behaviour has changed recently and it concerns you. You want to support them in this fast-paced and competitive world, but you’re not sure how. You want to understand them, but it feels you’re hitting a wall whenever you try to reach them. And you’re getting tired of trying. For children and youth, growing up involves changes that impact their well-being and their self-esteem. With attentive and empathetic support, their ability to cope with these changes can bring them confidence. But without the right support, they can internalize ideas about themselves and their relationships that cause them pain.

To develop clear insight of awareness towards our instinctual values, I believe it is critical to embrace, validate and acknowledge one’s individuality. Helping clients process the primary distinction between self-identity and where they want to be, is based on genuinely empathizing and understanding ways that we can best serve clients by applying therapeutic modalities that address their biological, physical and social constraints.

Childhood is often thought of as a magical time. The reality is that many kids face problems that leave them feeling worried, scared, angry, sad or confused. This can be difficult and heart breaking for parents trying their best to connect with and support their child. Very often, despite a caregiver’s best effort to learn more and help solve the problem, a child’s response is “I don’t know”. Play therapy can help provide children with the tools they need to express their thoughts and explore their inner world.

It can be exhausting to get through the day when your mind is constantly busy with worry, negative thoughts, or self-criticism. It may leave you feeling anxious, depressed, ashamed, self-conscious about yourself, and alone. Despite your best efforts to get rid of these thoughts, the feelings of not being or doing enough may persist and take away from the joy that you could be experiencing in life.

If you're looking for a therapist who's done every training there is, in a wide variety of therapeutic styles, and can claim to support pretty much any client with pretty much any need at an expert level - this is not me. But what I AM really good at is building a positive, nonjudgmental, and collaborative relationship. You can trust that I'll be using the expertise and training I have acquired through my decade-plus career to support you as you seek to cope with the issues at hand and ultimately continue to grow into a resilient, hope-filled person (or couple!).

You value being calm, taking care of yourself, and being attentive to the needs of others. And yet, in this moment, you feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally neglected and on the verge of burning out. You’ve spent too much time putting the needs of others first, and disregarding your emotional, physical, and mental health. You realize now that you have suffered enough. You have a strong desire to pursue change in your life, to address the patterns that get you stuck.

Congratulations on taking the first step to finding the right fitting therapist for you! Working with clients who are looking to create meaningful changes in their life is my passion. Life is difficult enough, but relationships that aren't "working" can cause even greater difficulties, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness of feeling trapped. Relationships are difficult if you don't know the rules! As a psychotherapist with over 20 yrs experience walking with individuals, couples, and families through the turbulent times in life, I have been able to help many relationships to heal and be healthier. Sometimes all a person needs is a different way of seeing what is before them, which allows them to deal with an issue(s) that once blocked them from the relationships they desired.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
