I have additional training in CBT for Anxiety, CBT for Insomnia, and Trauma.
Thank you for visiting my profile! Have you always been a worrier? Do you feel stressed and overwhelmed? You are not enjoying life the way you should be. Sometimes your past comes back to haunt you, which adds to your stress. You are coping the best you can, but it feels like nothing is working. We will work together to create a comfortable, safe space for you to feel heard. This allows you to increase your awareness of thoughts, feelings, and body experiences to figure out what is working and what could use some help. Sometimes we focus on the here and now, while other times the focus is on deeper work related to the past.

If you grew up in an environment where mental health is not talked about and where needing support is seen as weakness, reaching out for help can be extremely difficult. I am familiar with this experience and understand that trusting a professional takes tremendous courage. As your therapist, I will take a culturally sensitive approach in helping you with stress, loss and life transitions.

I’m experienced helping clients dealing with: anxiety, stress, depression, grief, anger, burnout, relationship problems, divorce, sleep / insomnia issues, among others.
We’re all prone to personal challenges, loss, relationship struggles and times when it's hard to cope. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I use a person-centred collaborative process with my clients and tailor therapy to each individual. I believe empathy begins with understanding life from another person's perspective, and is done without any judgement whatsoever. I provide an empathetic, trusting and confidential environment and offer support, coping tools, and encouragement to open up, identify strengths, change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.

I believe that clients deserve to be heard and understood as individuals, and that treatment should be flexibly tailored to meet their needs and goals. Rather than adopting a “one size fits all” approach to therapy, clients who choose to work with me will find that I create a highly collaborative therapeutic environment where they can learn customized strategies for addressing life's challenges, promoting personal growth, and enhancing well-being. I enjoy working with adults, couples and adolescents looking for guidance and support with their goals.

I offer evidence-based treatment for adults, adolescents, and couples across Ontario who are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, or unsure of how to move forward in their lives or relationships. I work with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, OCD, ADHD, substance use, personality disorders, and suicide and self-harm. For couples, I often work with partners caught in cycles of conflict, who feel distant from one another, or who are questioning the future of their relationship: whether they're seeking to rebuild trust and connection or find clarity about the path forward together, or apart.

Therapy with me is about addressing anything that stands in your way of living your best life. These barriers may be past trauma, current life transitions or the pressures of capitalism which manifest as depression, anxiety, burnout or unskillful coping patterns. In our work together, you will learn to befriend yourself unconditionally, while being accountable to yourself for the changes you would like to see. My approach is holistic and synthesizes the mind, body and spirit. I specialize in decolonized therapy that is queer-allied, pro-fat, and anti-racist.

Aristotle said, “knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Life is full of ups and downs, and knowledge is the main strength to manage; it is essential to enjoy an entire life. Mind, body, and spirit in balance are the key to achieving this. Therapy is adding knowledge to your life, but this knowledge is about yourself.

Do you feel like your mind never shuts off? Like no matter how hard you try, the stress, the worry, or the self-doubt just won’t go away? Anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, body image or major life changes can leave you feeling stuck, exhausted, or like you’re constantly falling behind. Maybe school or work feels impossible. Maybe past trauma keeps resurfacing. Whatever it is, you’re tired of feeling like this. You’re ready for things to feel lighter, more manageable—better. Most of all, you’re ready to feel like yourself again. I can help you get there.

Strong. Smart. Successful. That’s how everyone sees you. What they don’t see is what success is costing you. The sleepless nights when your mind won’t shut off. The mornings you wake up already exhausted. The calendar packed with time for everything & everyone BUT you. You thought success would make you happy, but instead you’re stressed, exhausted, & stuck in a life that leaves no time or bandwidth for what matters most. And you can’t even talk to anyone about it. Your friends & family care but don’t really get it. And the people at work get it but aren't safe to open up to. So I'm here to be the person you can really open up to.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
