I have additional training in CBT for Anxiety, CBT for Insomnia, and Trauma.
Thank you for visiting my profile! Have you always been a worrier? Do you feel stressed and overwhelmed? You are not enjoying life the way you should be. Sometimes your past comes back to haunt you, which adds to your stress. You are coping the best you can, but it feels like nothing is working. We will work together to create a comfortable, safe space for you to feel heard. This allows you to increase your awareness of thoughts, feelings, and body experiences to figure out what is working and what could use some help. Sometimes we focus on the here and now, while other times the focus is on deeper work related to the past.

The lack of sleep is taking it's toll and you're Googling "gentle" sleep consultants hoping more sleep will make a difference, but can't imagine leaving your baby to Cry It Out.
Together we will tackle the "not good enough" thoughts to allow space for your true core self and wisdom to emerge. We will weed out all the noise on Google about how to parent and connect to Your values and Your instincts. We will talk about your child's sleep to quiet the worry that you're creating bad habits and allow you to respond to your child's needs.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is the gold standard in managing anxiety as well as highly effective for stress, and chronic sleep problems.
Are you constantly worrying and do not seem to be able to turn it off? Are you worrying about many different things including what could happen in the future and/or ruminating about what has happened in the past, or worrying whether other people are judging you? Do you often have trouble relaxing, feel unhappy, feel edgy and restless, or do you have that feeling that something bad might happen, and feel burnt out? Do you find that anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and low self-compassion make you irritable, lead to bad mood, difficulties concentrating, and feeling unmotivated and even procrastinating? If so, I am happy you are here!

I work with clients facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, low mood, insomnia, substance use, relationship distress, and post-traumatic stress.
I appreciate that change is hard. Therapy–– facing fears, trying new behaviours and learning alternate coping skills––can often feel uncomfortable. I also believe that our values and aspirations can help us move forward when the going gets tough. So, to make the hard work of therapy worthwhile, I will collaborate with you to uncover what makes your unique life meaningful. We will examine barriers to your meaningful life and develop a plan to overcome them.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
