I am a Registered Psychotherapist providing
psychodynamic
psychotherapy for individuals, by telephone . I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, bereavement, anger, addictions and trauma. I also assist people in their understanding of how these and other such difficulties can affect their relationships with themselves (low self esteem), and with others (families, friends and colleagues) and vice versa. This understanding opens up the avenues for change that you may be looking for. I believe that we all have a natural striving for health, but often lose connection with it due to life's vicissitudes.

In my 5th year of a 6-year psychotherapy training program, I see clients under the expert guidance of a clinical supervisor. This affords you the beneficial insights of two professionals on your case. With a
psychodynamic
psychotherapy focus, I employ a somatic, trauma-informed approach to the unconscious roots of emotional suffering, using attachment-theory as my guide. The client-therapist relationship is considered fundamental to the process and acts as a window into the repetitive patterns that can keep us stuck, where we don't want to be.

, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion based approaches.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, unresolved trauma or relationship issues with your partner, parent or yourself? Perhaps you hard on yoursef, critical or "empty". I am passionate about assisting you in restoring the sense of personal power, facilitate growth and/or healing important relationships. Together we will explore the sources of your present or ongoing struggle and co-create a more effective blueprint on how to regain control over your difficulty. The better we understand our inner emotional life, the easier it is to change destructive and self-sabotaging behaviour patterns and repetitions.

I aim to work collaboratively and understand my clients by using techniques from CBT, emotion-focused,
psychodynamic
, and mindfulness based therapies.
Welcome! At some point, you may have experienced stress, felt anxious, overwhelmed, sad, or depressed. No one is immune to these common, human conditions. Sometimes, we can work such emotions out on our own by changing our lifestyles, reading books, taking classes, or through talking with friends and family members. Other times, we notice patterns that we haven’t been able to change on our own, or issues start to overwhelm us and negatively affect our lives, relationships, and work. I hope to create a warm and supportive environment where my clients are encouraged to seek positive change and growth.

I offer an environment where change can be explored in creative and practical ways. Mindful conversation and reflection, compassion for self and the practice of both cognitive and somatic strategies are incorporated into each session. I believe that therapy is a co-created experience. It is important to me that people find new resources and enhance the ones that are already available to them. My approach is influenced by somatic psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, developmental, relational and
psychodynamic
schools of psychology.

We will work together to create achievable goals utilizing Cognitive,
Psychodynamic
and Emotionally Focused therapies, among others.
In my thirty eight years of providing social work and psychotherapy services, I have learned that people seek counselling when they find themselves in difficult and painful situations. To makes matters more complex, the coping skills that they have learned to date are not providing relief or resolution. To put it simply - my clients want help in becoming “unstuck”. Counselling provides an opportunity to be understood and to learn new ways of perceiving and solving problems. My clients are able to expand their capacity to cope with multiple stressors and conflicts and are able to create a new vision of themselves and their future.

The pain of loss can be overwhelming and feeling alone in your grief only makes it harder. I am here to listen and stand with you. Life is full of loss, whether it’s a death, the end of a relationship, a traumatic event, hopes and dreams lost, grief is all around. We experience anger and disbelief, guilt, and sadness. Our bodies pay the price as we struggle through our days. We look for support around us, but are sometimes let down by the response we get. I lived this reality while struggling through my own grief. You may have found yourself here because you dream of feeling better one day, but you fear it’s not possible.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
