Whether you are dealing with the loss of a marriage or trying to cope with the death of a loved one, times of change are confusing and filled with uncertainty.
Deciding to engage in therapy means being prepared to ask and answer challenging questions. You will learn to acknowledge that you have choices to make and discover that often they are not easy ones. Through this process you will also learn to love and accept yourself and discover that there is always hope.

I’ve had the privilege to connect with people from many walks of life, across a broad range of concerns, including, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, intimate partner violence, relationship concerns, and social inequities.
Achieving our dreams may be affected by systemic oppression such as racism, colonialism, cis-heteropatriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, and capitalism. Systemic discrimination can effect our lives materially and how we see ourselves and others. My approach links our histories and larger societal narratives together to create meaningful changes.

An individual seems to function on the surface, while internally carrying a sense of loss, incompleteness, or grief that “does not show
I’m a Registered Clinical and School Psychological Associate (Registered by CPBAO) with 20+ years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient and inpatient settings. From a psychodynamic perspective, I offer a different kind of listening so clients may find space and words for what lies beneath their suffering and process it.

Grief can feel isolating — especially when the loss is sudden, traumatic, or something others don’t fully understand.
I work with adults navigating grief, trauma, and difficult life transitions. Many of the people I support are living with sudden or complicated loss, anxiety connected to trauma, relationship challenges, or the feeling of being stuck while others seem to move forward.

I also work with clients around grief, ambiguous loss, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and dementia.
All behavior has meaning. I will honor your experience with zero judgement. Instead of looking for what is wrong and how to fix it, we will look for what is right and use it. We will nurture self-compassion, develop practical coping skills, learn to live within our limits, build our relationship love umbrella, and enjoy a new sense of confidence and hope.

But sometimes it’s something deeper - trauma, loss, pressure, or the slow accumulation of everything you’ve been holding.
I've sat with individuals who thought they were falling apart and helped them see they were carrying more than anyone should carry alone. Twenty years in clinical work in trauma, loss and adjustment has taught me one thing: when hormonal shifts, trauma, and life pressure collide, you don't need a checklist. You need someone who understands the weight.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
