I am so glad you are here. Are you feeling overwhelmed by all you do? Facing difficulties or stress stemming from your dynamics with family, friends, peers, co-workers, or your partner? Caught in the constant worry cycle of what will happen next or who you are meant to be? The people we are with and things we do in life can offer so much meaning, yet can cause excess stress or fear of the unknown. If you are feeling overly anxious, experiencing a low mood, looking for support for your children during a marital separation, or struggling with a family member with addiction or alcohol dependence, I value the opportunity to support you.

Parents I have worked with have often told me that they felt a great sense of relief after seeking help for their family challenges.
Worn out from never-ending conflict at home? At your wit's end over your kids' behaviour? Struggling to communicate with the people you love the most? Feeling guilty about your knee-jerk reactions to these problems? I can help. I teach individuals, couples, and parents of children between the ages of 6 and 18 the tools and strategies that work with today's families to * communicate effectively and easily, * equip you for any discipline challenge, * lower stress by getting your family working as a team... as well as * overcome guilt, anxiety and depression. You CAN create family harmony!

I address issues holistically considering family, trauma, physical health, spirituality and ongoing present factors.
The reality of our brokenness is plain to see all around us. The good news is that this brokenness is not the end of the story, but rather the starting point for healing and transformation. We do not have to live as things are, there is a hope for something better. I look forward to the opportunity to step into your brokenness, embark on the path of healing, and discover the hope that we all have.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
