Perhaps unresolved family issues continue to affect your sense of peace and security.
Are you with someone where you are unheard, it feels like you are the problem, and being gaslighted. I work with adults who are in an unhealthy relationship and looking for guidance on their romantic and platonic relationship support. I get that these unhealthy relationships can make you stuck and feels like you are in a freeze response. If you are looking for some clarity, guidance, tips on your relationships and attachment, you're in the right place. After a few sessions through practical skills and new insights, you will feel like you can breathe again, think clearly, and get some answers.

I use an integrative approach that is supported by evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotion/Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), and mindfulness-based practices.
What would it be like if you felt at home with yourself? What would it be like if all the different parts of you had a space to feel seen, to be heard, and to come together? We can work together to get to know you — all of you. We will move toward the changes you would like to see for yourself by co-creating a space where you can feel safe enough to voice your truths and gain awareness of how past survival strategies impact your current day-to-day. In my work with couples and individuals, we address issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and trauma.

We will unpack the present stressors in your life, as well as factors that may be contributing, including childhood family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, and systemic oppression.
Have you been wishing things felt different? Maybe you haven't felt understood or accepted in your friendships or relationships. Maybe you're going through a breakup, the death of a loved one, or job loss. Or maybe you've been struggling to feel happy, even when things seem to be going well. Do you want to better understand where your emotions are coming from, why they have such a hold on you, and how to feel better? Are you curious to explore your early childhood experiences that influenced how you learned to be in the world, and whether those adaptations are still working for you today?

I have experience working with people living with anxiety, stress, chronic pain and illness, family issues, burnout, and trauma.
My approach is rooted in self-compassion and the nervous system. I believe we need to attune to ourselves to withstand life's challenges, but that's hard to do when our nervous system and our minds are dysregulated. Therefore, dismantling our negative inner thoughts, beliefs, and judgments is crucial to accepting ourselves as we are.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
