It is my hope to provide a comfortable place for people to explore feelings that are difficult to share anywhere else.
Now Accepting New Patients - Are you hiding your pain? Feeling like you are barely holding on? Managing to function but no one else knows how you really feel inside? Do you feel overwhelmed, inadequate, exhausted and are questioning yourself - your ability to cope and juggle all of life's demands? Do you feel that you are struggling in your relationships and feeling uncertain, confused, or lonely? Are you experiencing your relationships as painful? Life happens, events occur that throw us all for a loop and can change our confidence and ability to cope and can lead to stress, anxiety, and feelings of depression.

I guide people through their current “stuck” points, towards the life they want to live.
Perhaps you identify as being "highly sensitive". Maybe you're feeling anxious, or depressed, or have a sense of unworthiness. You may be having difficulty managing stress. Therapy is an opportunity to work with an understanding guide, who creates a safe, supportive and collaborative environment in the face of these challenges. Being that guide is my passion. I will help you expand your "toolkit", while developing self-understanding, self-compassion, and connection to your own values, strengths, and wisdom. “Suffering is our call to attention, our call to investigate the truth of our beliefs.” - Tara Brach

I believe there is no “one size fits all” therapeutic approach.
You are an adult that struggles with problems that may interfere with your relationships and day to day functioning such as anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. You hold yourself to higher standards than you hold others and feel disappointed when you do not achieve perfection. You may be a partner, parent, or caregiver for other people who you prioritize above yourself. You probably recognize that you have needs that are not getting met, but you struggle to even identify what those needs are. You are looking for solutions that will lead to lasting improvement and you are desperate to feel better.

The key ingredient to successfully optimizing the fundamental components that elicit a robust therapeutic discourse is respecting the client’s cultural identity, providing a supportive environment and maximizing the client’s potential to re-conceptualize their area of need.
To develop clear insight of awareness towards our instinctual values, I believe it is critical to embrace, validate and acknowledge one’s individuality. Helping clients process the primary distinction between self-identity and where they want to be, is based on genuinely empathizing and understanding ways that we can best serve clients by applying therapeutic modalities that address their biological, physical and social constraints.

On a daily basis I believe many of us experience life challenges that can cause disruption to our lives.
I aim to work with you collaboratively to enable individuals to solve their social/emotional concerns. Over the years I’ve supported individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress management, coping skills, self harming behaviours, relationship issues and parent teen conflict. I understand stressors of life and how they may have an impact on individuals. Thus I seek to help individuals locate themselves in their daily situations, reflect and influence positive change.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
