My therapy focus is based on changes clients want to see in their own lives, including areas of self-care, work-life balance, personal growth, spirituality , parenting, intimacy, and relationships with one’s self and others.
I have interest in helping people with anxiety disorders (social, health and generalized anxiety disorders, specific phobias, agoraphobia and panic disorders) as well as depression, trichotillomania and body-focused repetitive behaviours. I also work with people experiencing situational anxiety in relation to specific issues, such as personal issues (poor self-esteem/self-confidence, past or current emotional or physical trauma), family/parenting issues, relationship issues, marital conflict or dissolution and school or vocational issues. I offer in-person and virtual/online sessions to make psychotherapy accessible for everyone.

Depending on your individual needs, we may explore principles of cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and spirituality .
We all have times when we feel overwhelmed by unexpected changes in our family life, relationships, careers or health - times when strong emotions are difficult to manage alone. Perhaps you are experiencing divorce, looking for a career change, deeply saddening by the state of our planet, or wondering what comes next. Maybe you long for a different life, but don't know what to move towards. You might be a high-achieving professional whose drive for success has left you feeling isolated and disconnected. You may be an exhausted or frustrated parent/partner, or grieving the loss of someone you love. You may be male/female/non-binary.

I want you to live a life of wholeness and joy, being free of emotional pain, dealing with life on life's terms, and finding meaning in family, friendships, work, and spirituality .
I want to help you live the life you want while enjoying the process. Although therapy may bring up painful moments, it doesn’t have to be painful for it to work. Evidenced based modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) can get you feeling better quickly and efficiently. I am now also offering psychedelic therapy (individual and groups) within a legal framework to help you courageously and compassionately witness and move through the trauma that is holding you back. Please visit my website for more information.

We're born into a world of stories about reality and about us. Our friends and our parents tell them to us. School, work and media tell them to us. And we start telling them to ourselves. In a time of mass media deception, false role models, unreal images, and dysfunctional families, our inner truth gets more and more hidden. The re-discovery of who we are is crucial for living a meaningful life. In Groundwork we become co-coonspirators in finding the real story about you, finding the authentic grounds of your existence, and helping you choose to be real.

With her Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto and over 16 years of counselling experience, Kim's therapy approach is encouraging, motivating and practical. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) she provides practical techniques to address anxious and depressive moods. She believes that self-talk and lifestyle routines play a key role in successfully managing emotions. When we adapt a more positive, balanced perspective, our feelings and behaviours follow. Past hurts and traumas can be used as a powerful ally to produce a newfound freedom. By walking through our pain we can find new restored purpose and JOY!

There may be times where a person may feel so overwhelmed by their feelings or external circumstances that they are crippled from living the life that they desire and yearn for. These feelings or external circumstances may present themselves as negative thoughts, anxiety, depression, traumatic events, family dynamics and so much more. There is a need and desire for a safe space where one can process through external circumstances and how they impacted them; navigate through those difficult and overwhelming emotions with empathy and compassion; and where they can be their authentic selves without the worry of judgement or rejection.

When your darkness looms, you must venture inward as opposed to looking outward. The light lives within and we will venture together to find it and bring it out. I believe in a holistic approach because every person has what they require to heal inside. Sometimes, people go to therapy and come out feeling the same as they went in, with no new perspective. I believe this is because the person hasn’t been asked the right questions or challenged. I endeavour to ensure my clients see a new perspective, develop insight into their patterns and behaviours, and take responsibility for themselves in life.

I WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. Life can often get in our way, and things can catch up with us and we suddenly realize this is not the life we want for ourselves. Painful, emotional feelings from our past can affect our self-esteem, all our relationships, esp intimate ones, and conflict occurs. Relationships are at our core, and understanding ourselves oft through the lens of difficult relationships help us learn how to be more compassionate, nurture self-love, be better communicators, and to create more trust and belief in oneself. I am often referred to as the "Happiness Locator" & Self Esteem Coach.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
