Life can feel overwhelming at times. Uncertainty, unexpected challenges and self-doubt can weigh us down. Carrying such weight can cause us to experience fatigue, worry, sleepless nights, and unwanted behaviours, thoughts and emotions. Imagine what it would be like if some of that weight could be lifted. I offer compassionate care for people with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, grief and trauma. Based on an integrative mix of both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, I endeavour to inspire compassionate self-understanding with an aim towards inner healing.

I believe that the process of change can only take place when a client is treated with empathy, respect, and understanding, the starting point of effective therapy. This is my focus in every interaction. I also focus on understanding the main factors underlying unwanted patterns in order to inform pathways towards desired change using an approach that emphasizes collaboration. My framework combines humanistic therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), while adjusting to each person's unique needs.

Many people connect with me to help understand and address the negative impact of how they were raised in any given culture, but specifically in Asian cultures. You are someone who had a difficult childhood leaving you feeling unloved, unheard and unseen. Who tends to be a people pleaser and can't say "no" to others. You are overly critical and doubt yourself. You experience low self-worth and self-esteem. Feeling unsatisfied in yourself and in your relationships. Someone who fears failure, judgement, rejection and abandonment. Someone who constantly feels anxious because you're unsure of yourself and needs, and lacks independence.

Ever find yourself putting your own needs on the back burner just to keep the peace or lend a helping hand? It's totally understandable—we all have our reasons, whether it's avoiding conflict or the fear of rejection. But here's the thing: when you're constantly saying "yes" to others, you're inadvertently saying "no" to yourself. That's where I come in! I provide a warm and accepting environment where you can freely explore your challenges without judgment. Together, we'll work on identifying those old patterns and shedding the habits that no longer serve your journey toward healing.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
