As the innovative Brené Brown once said "when we deny our story, it defines us, but when we own our story, we can write a brave new ending". We all have a story that's filled with difficult times, hardship and unique experiences that have shaped who you are now. What happens next is up to you, as you have more control than you might think. if you're ready to take the next step in changing your life for the better then I invite you to allow me to be a part of that, where I can offer a safe space free of judgement and criticism. Instead I can help guide you toward your goals offering clarity, perspective and empathic understanding.

I use a variety of resilience-building therapeutic approaches such as
Dialectical
-Behavioural (
DBT
), Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT), Emotion Focused (EFT) and Motivational Interviewing.
If there is a magic word for change, it is resilience. Resilience is the capacity to grow despite misfortune, gaining strength from challenges rather than surrendering to them. It really is a vital life-skill and the best news is that resilience can be learned! That's a bonus, given that we cannot have complete control of our lives. Observing the positive effects of such resilience, I became more interested in helping others gain this capacity. There really is nobody quite like you and my task is to work with your individuality. This is why I focus on building your future strength. https://www.centrepsychotherapy.ca/

CBT &
DBT
therapy is very effective, as is Emotion-Focused Mindfulness therapy.
I WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. Life can often get in our way, and things can catch up with us and we suddenly realize this is not the life we want for ourselves. Painful, emotional feelings from our past can affect our self-esteem, all our relationships, esp intimate ones, and conflict occurs. Relationships are at our core, and understanding ourselves oft through the lens of difficult relationships help us learn how to be more compassionate, nurture self-love, be better communicators, and to create more trust and belief in oneself. I am often referred to as the "Happiness Locator" & Self Esteem Coach.

Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
