I am a Masters qualified therapist, a Registered Psychotherapist with CRPO, certified Life Coach,
Couples
Counsellor, & Family Therapist.
I WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. Life can often get in our way, and things can catch up with us and we suddenly realize this is not the life we want for ourselves. Painful, emotional feelings from our past can affect our self-esteem, all our relationships, esp intimate ones, and conflict occurs. Relationships are at our core, and understanding ourselves oft through the lens of difficult relationships help us learn how to be more compassionate, nurture self-love, be better communicators, and to create more trust and belief in oneself. I am often referred to as the "Happiness Locator" & Self Esteem Coach.

I use compassion, humour, science and empathy to help you thrive as individuals,
couples
and families.
Parenting is hard, and no matter how much we ask, it doesn’t come with a manual. Childhood anxiety, depression, ADHD, teenage angst and everyday challenges are on the rise and learning where to go for help can be overwhelming. Despite our efforts, the resulting feelings of frustration and despair are very real. I have been there myself and understand that, like with learning any new skill, parenting takes work. Learning tools and applying them consistently while faced with numerous challenges requires support, compassion and gentle guidance. What's important to know is that you are not alone and that there is support available.

Her hope is to be that safe space for individuals,
couples
and families where they can be their authentic selves and explore through the issues that are getting in the way of living the life that they yearn for.
There may be times where a person may feel so overwhelmed by their feelings or external circumstances that they are crippled from living the life that they desire and yearn for. These feelings or external circumstances may present themselves as negative thoughts, anxiety, depression, traumatic events, family dynamics and so much more. There is a need and desire for a safe space where one can process through external circumstances and how they impacted them; navigate through those difficult and overwhelming emotions with empathy and compassion; and where they can be their authentic selves without the worry of judgement or rejection.

At
Couples
in Step we focus exclusively on
couples
.
You live together but you're distant, isolated, and lonely under the same roof. Hostility infects all corners of your home. Infertility has taken its toll. Infidelity is a severe breach of commitment and trust. Healthy, positive and rewarding sexuality is not part of your couple life. Parenting exacts its price. You contemplate divorce or separation but you're unsure that's the right path. Nearly every couple faces challenges. The difficulties can get so overwhelming they can make both of you feel helpless and directionless. In our stress filled, anxiety-driven lives it helps to talk with a professional about your
relationship
.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
