Using a strengths-based, person-centred approach, my team and I support autistic individuals and their loved ones to better understand and accept neurodiversity. Different not less. We help individuals cope with the mental health effects of living in a neurotypical world and co-create a roadmap that supports their wellbeing. Partners and family members are given tools to understand communication differences so relationships can flourish. Clinicians are experienced working with girls, women, non-binary, and LGBTQA+ individuals.

Hidden stress, untreated trauma, fears, long term anxiety and depression can easily cause psychical illness. Bodily signs can be different according to gender and age. Unwrapping those hidden factors can help women with pelvic pain, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, lack of desire, constipation or sexual difficulties. Erection problems, sex life changes or even an overactive bladder can be physical symptoms of hidden stress for men. Children often experience bed wetting, stomach pain, constipation or voiding difficulties without any medical conditions. My speciality is to help in these psychosomatic conditions.

In the four decades of my work in the mental health field I have learned to tailor my approach to the unique needs of the individuals with whom I work. My training in psychodynamic and interpersonal therapies has helped sensitize me to the complex developmental and family roots of our personalities and struggles. I will help you determine the kind of healing that is the best fit at the current stage of your life journey. I am aware that some people will want to consider medication as a complement to psychotherapy. Although I do not prescribe medication my experience enables me to guide a person who may wish to consider meds.

My ideal client is willing to engage in self-reflection, explore the deeper existential issues related to his/her predicament, and discover the pathways of actualizing his/her potential and dream. Such a client can be a new college graduate struggling for a better understanding of her self-identity or a senior questioning his life's meaning. The issues I am best suited to addressing are both the dark sides of the human condition-such as depression, anxiety, anger, loss, suffering, and death-and the bright sides of personal growth and flourishing.

People experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, behaving and being. Our uniquely individual and neurodiverse brains are wired to work differently. These differences affect our perceptions, responses and social interactions. I strive to ensure that clients feel heard and seen and accepted for exactly who they are and where they are, at any point in their lives.

I am Registered Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with children and their parents in what I believe is the hardest job – parenting! It takes real courage and sacrifice to reach out and ask for help. Whether you are looking to help yourself or your child, this process brings up many challenging feelings. My hope is to support you and/or your child to look inward and navigate these emotions and identify the feelings that have been getting in the way. Instead of avoiding these feelings, we will work together to process them with the ultimate goal of experiencing real change, for yourself and your relationships

How can I find a therapist in North York?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
