First off, I'm so glad you are here. You are doing the right thing.. putting you first, maybe for the first time ever? I like to think of therapy as a walk through the dark. Sure, it can be scary. However, with you leading the way, I will be right next to you holding the flashlight. When things get tough, we often forget how powerful and capable we are. I can help you rediscover your strength.. I say rediscover because it absolutely is there. I want to remind you, you are not broken. There is nothing wrong with you. You are having normal reactions to abnormal circumstances and sometimes that can make us feel weak. You are not weak.

We all want to belong, feel loved, and live a happy life. Our biology drives us to seek out other people even when we’ve been hurt by others. It can be so hard to nurture our needs for connection and our urges to self-protect from potential hurt. You deserve to feel a sense of belonging while feeling safe and secure in your relationships with yourself and others. Let’s look at how you can truly be your natural self, make space for all of you. Because your natural self is enough and deserves to be loved and cared for.

Trauma isn't about an event itself - it is about our reactions to it. For almost a decade, I have worked with people who have experienced a variety of complex traumas. Together, we will work to transform your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual responses that have been impacted by trauma. We will explore a variety of interventions to help calm the nervous system, forge safe mind-body connections, integrate aspects of the self that have split or dissociated, process traumatic memories and find new meaning or post traumatic growth.

Accepting new clients! By using a person-centered, collaborative approach, I place a heavy emphasis on the individuality of each client. I take a ‘no one size fits all approach’ to my clients, since interventions and evidence-based approaches that work for some, may not work for others. I have a strong passion for assisting first responders, elite athletes (performance anxieties and blocks) and clients who have experienced trauma. Often times when clients feel ‘stuck,’ it becomes imperative to access and process lived experiences and the affects of these lived experiences via talk therapy or Brainspotting (or a combination of both).

There’s so much you’d like to do, yet it feels like your life has come to a standstill. Inner chaos and pain, or numbness and disconnection seem to take up so much space, making you lose valuable time. You’re exhausted from living in fear, or dealing with the frustration, bitterness, or shame that comes with not being able to move forward. While your experience can lead to isolation as you find it hard to be around anybody, you may also find it difficult to be alone at all, impacting your ability to have healthy relationships. You feel as though pieces of your life have been lost along the way and all you want is to have them back.

Maybe you feel muddled, overwhelmed and/or paralyzed by day-to-day life. Stuck within competing responsibilities in this increasingly fast-paced world. There might be times when you feel stuck in patterns that leave life feeling unsatisfying and empty. You may be negotiating a relationship or trying to adjust to a new job. Are you highly self-critical with a harsh inner voice? Seeking help is sometimes perceived as a weakness. Part of our work together will help to clarify that reaching out for what you need takes courage. Courage is fear walking- take that first step to the jagged edges of your comfort zone, towards change.

Perhaps you have reached out because you have fears about what is happening in the world. Maybe you are struggling with some type of substance abuse, an eating disorder, or an addiction. Possibly you are in an abusive, or a dissatisfying relationship. Perhaps you are dealing with grief and loss. Or, you may be dissatisfied with your job/career, and you would like to make a change. Maybe you have questions about whether there is something more to life than the circumstances that you are now living in. Perhaps you have been on a human development path, and feel like you want to take your work to the next level.

As a clinician, I believe that the only limits are the ones we impose on ourselves. I believe that being accountable for our current reality, the good, the bad and the ugly, is paramount if we are to remain in the driver’s seat of our own life. I believe that insight is the key to unlocking unconscious patterns of thinking and being that keep us stuck. Finally, I believe that thinking and wishing won’t make change happen but taking action will. Let’s get started on shifting your perspective and get you going on the path to wellness. I want to help you transform what IS into what you WANT it to be.

How can I find a therapist in North Bay?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
