Accepting new clients. You may be the person others rely on, the one who keeps going, handles the crisis and pushes through. Underneath, you may feel exhausted, disconnected or unsure of who you are outside the roles you've carried. Shé:kon, I am a Mohawk psychotherapist student intern from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. After more than a decade working in corrections, I understand the impact high-stress roles can have on the body and sense of self. I work with first responders, helpers, BIPOC and neurodivergent individuals navigating stress, burnout, trauma and life transitions.

My approach is evidence-based and grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
New clients welcome. You may have tended to be someone who is thoughtful, curious, and dedicated to your relationships, your work, or to engaging with life with commitment; yet, that well of care and commitment may not extend as easily to yourself. You might feel stuck, navigating life's complexities, stress, demanding roles, anxiety, low mood, or impacts of past trauma, and longing for a greater sense of engagement, growth, or inner peace. With 20+ years of clinical experience, I provide therapy to adults from all walks of life, including extensive experience working with veterans, military members, and their adult family members.

I draw on evidence-based therapies such as EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), CBT, ACT, CPT, and DBT to help clients process pain and build resilience.
Welcome! I’m Kristen, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, dedicated to supporting those who often put others first, sometimes at great personal cost. I have a deep respect for the unique realities faced by individuals working in corrections, the military, emergency services, and other first responder roles—people who navigate high-pressure environments and are often the first to respond in moments of crisis. I am equally passionate about supporting adults living with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief, loss, or eating disorders. My work is informed by my extensive clinical experience working with these populations.

You're not just stressed — you're worn down from functioning in survival mode. You may look fine on the outside, but inside you feel on edge, shut down, or emotionally flat. You've likely tried therapy or self-help already and are frustrated that understanding hasn't changed how your body reacts. What makes this different: I'm both a therapist and a Registered Practical Nurse. I understand how chronic stress shows up physically — in your sleep, digestion, immune system, and pain levels. We work with your whole system, not just your thoughts.

I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, and relationship patterns, using an integrative approach rooted in Person-Centred therapy, DBT, ACT, and IFS.
Maybe you have spent a long time holding things together for everyone else and are only starting to ask what you actually need. You might show up capable and composed on the outside while something underneath has quietly been asking for attention. Perhaps you are navigating anxiety, a major life transition, or patterns in relationships you cannot quite shake. Whatever brought you here, if you are ready to slow down, get honest, and do the real work, this is a good place to do it. We move at your pace, build insight that actually sticks, and work toward a version of you that feels more grounded and more like yourself.

All my life I have worked to try and help ease people's suffering. Whether it be trauma, depression, or anxiety, it is my desire to help people live their best possible life. Helping people overcome these things that are preventing them from living a full life is what drives me. It's not just about overcoming mental illness but is about having mental wellness.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
