Working with neuro-diverse children and adolescents over the years has given me knowledge and insight into their unique experiences. This has led me to work with adults experiencing ASD or ADHD as well. Helping these individuals with sensory processing, peer relationships, behavioural difficulties, social cueing and emotional regulation are the many areas that I have experience. Children and adults are trying to find their way in life, with support and therapy I can guide them in that journey. I also lead the BoLD program at Zafire Holistic Wellness where we have FREE workshops for parents & immediate booking psych. ed. assessments

Being honest and vulnerable with someone you’ve just met can be scary and overwhelming. I offer a safe and open experience where I am committed to understanding your goals and supporting you on your path to wellness and wholeness. My understanding of the importance of receiving support began with my own personal experiences caring for family members. These experiences highlighted the importance of listening, the value of empathy, and the need to be treated with dignity and respect. I will remind you that you are not broken, give you room to access your wisdom, support you in identifying how you feel, and planning your next steps.

I believe seeking supports through counselling is an act of bravery and courage and as such I consider it an honour for anyone to confide in me their struggles, hopes and aspirations. My intention is to simply be human with individuals and help guide them along their journey. Therapy is not a fix it all solution, it takes time, practice and most importantly a genuine human connection.

, Black identified cisgender women, I am a survivor of physical abuse/domestic violence and believe that Black individuals often deter from seeking therapy due to cultural stereotypes.
You have everything, yet nothing. You try to make meaning of your life, but deep down a feeling of emptiness lingers. You deeply want to feel a genuine sense of happiness, but sadness overwhelms you. The deep wound of your past has you in a state of depression, anxiety, anger, and chronic stress. You have uncontrollable thoughts you try to ignore but cannot. Living with a sense of peace is hard to gain and you are exhausted. These feelings are affecting your relationships, your employment, academic pursuits or just your ability to manage day to day activities. If this sounds familiar, I am here to help.

I work with people who are struggling with intense emotions like mood swings, emptiness, or deep sadness, and those who feel stuck in unhealthy relationships or life patterns. Some of my clients have faced difficult past experiences that make it hard to trust others, feel secure, or connect deeply in relationships. They might carry a sense of shame or guilt, often feel anxious or on edge, and struggle with feeling safe or understood. Many also turn to substances as a way to cope with these overwhelming feelings, leading to challenges with addiction. In addition, they may be dealing with big life changes.

There are times when everyone struggles to find ways to balance their own needs vs. all of life's competing demands. When this balance becomes uneven due to additional stressors in our relationships, school or work lives, we often forget to prioritize our emotional health. This can lead to chronic stress and problematic behaviours that impact functioning. Psychotherapy can give you the chance to explore the root cause of these stressors.

My name is Lisa and I am an ADHD Occupational Therapist. As an ADHDer myself I strongly value providing neurodivergent-affirming care that enables you to work WITH your ADHD, rather than against it. As an OT, I provide personalized support that focuses on functional goals. This may be in areas such as building and maintaining routines, completing chores, starting and engaging in work or school tasks, and other areas of life that are important to you. Although we will talk a lot about mental health, my approach is different than traditional therapy as we focus on day-to-day functional goals.

With a high interest in child mental health, I have dedicated my practice to helping children and teens develop the skills and connections they need to flourish. My practice is built on two major beliefs: (1) that children do well when they can (or have the skills to) and (2) that children blossom when they have strong connections with their caregiver(s). Through this lens, common issues such as those related to ADHD, autism, anxiety/panic, school, peer relationships, identity-exploration, behaviour, emotional-regulation, grief, and self-esteem can be overcome by fostering the necessary skills and parent-child connections to thrive.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
