Optimizing sleep , nutrition, and physical health were some of the supports I provided in a naturopathic capacity.
I work with adults who are seeking to better cope with life's challenges and looking for support with their self-growth. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, have a low sense of self-worth, want to more effectively manage stress, or identify as being "highly sensitive". I view therapy as an opportunity to uncover and resolve self-limiting beliefs in a safe, supportive and collaborative environment. I enjoy helping my clients expand their "toolkits", while developing self-understanding, self-compassion, and connection to their own values, strengths, and wisdom. I also provide support to other therapists.

I have a particular interest in the vast field of burnout prevention and treatment. I can help make sense of the increasingly cynical outlook on life and detachment that some individuals experience during transitional and nuanced times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a sky-rocketing prevalence of anxiety, depression, chronic insomnia , and general exacerbation of preexisting mental health disorders. I am inspired to help others who are experiencing this debilitating state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion.

Welcoming a new baby can be both rewarding and challenging, no matter how experienced you are as a parent. If you are feeling overwhelmed, sad, or just not yourself, you may be experiencing the effects of post-partum mood disorder (depression, anxiety, OCD, etc.). Many individuals suffer in silence, worried that their issues are not big enough. As a mother of three, I know we can all use a bit more help and support at times (and a lot more self compassion!). With specialized training in perinatal mental health and birth trauma, as well as grief and loss, my role is to help you through this journey.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
