We can also work using specialized CBT protocols to target panic disorder, worry, OCD, PTSD and depression.
Things happen. It is easy to get overwhelmed. Panic attacks, flashbacks, sadness and feelings of uncomfortable tension might become a part of everyday existence. Our attempts at coping help at first, then end up by compounding the pain. Worry, procrastination, excessive defensiveness, addictions or even perfectionism, are all examples of initially helpful coping strategies that backfire over time. We might worry about our problems daily, and yet remain unable to face them. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) can help make sense of things.

I have specialized training in obsessive-compulsive disorder ( OCD) and related disorders such as body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRB’s) or body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).
It can feel exhausting when your mind doesn’t slow down. When overthinking, self-doubt, or anxiety start to take up more space than you’d like, and even simple things begin to feel heavier than they used to. I would love to help walk alongside you to work on confidence in yourself, your relationships, and handling the uncertainties in life.

I'm glad you're here. Knowing firsthand how hard it can be to reach out, I commend you for taking this first step, for leading with courage and breaking the stigma around mental health. As a second-generation Sri Lankan Tamil woman in Toronto, I work from an understanding of acculturation stress, intergenerational dynamics, identity, and family relationships. I deeply respect the resilience people possess and consider it a privilege to support each of my clients as they reconnect with their strengths and move toward lives that feel more grounded, authentic, and aligned with who they are.

I primarily work with adults seeking support for presenting concerns, such as anxiety, OCD, life transitions, and interpersonal/relationship conflict.
Starting therapy can be intriguing, but the process can also be overwhelming. It is normal to wonder whether therapy will help or even if your therapist will understand you, especially if you are feeling stuck. I value and tailor evidence-based psychotherapy approaches to fit your individual needs. I see the client as the expert on their life. As I learn from you, you will learn of my expertise. Together, we will make your therapy goals your reality.

You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of the people I work with are navigating something quieter but just as heavy: a transition they did not expect, a pattern they cannot seem to break, a version of themselves they are trying to grow into. I work with children, adolescents, and adults across all stages of life. Whether a child building confidence, a teen finding their footing socially, or an adult moving through change and uncertainty, I meet each person where they are and build from there.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
