My practice is rooted in a feminist , anti-oppressive and trauma-informed framework.
My primary aim is to provide a non-judgmental, confidential, and supportive environment that promotes self-awareness, honours strengths and resilience, allowing individuals to openly talk about their concerns and feelings. Utilizing principles of self-compassion, mindfulness, and cognitive strategies, I provide a safe space for individuals to express and understand their feelings and develop new strategies for managing difficult challenges, changes, and transitions. Together, we work on developing a therapeutic relationship, creating a dialogue, and work to overcome problematic thoughts, feelings or behaviours.

I am a Registered Social Worker and a Feminist Counsellor with a Masters in Expressive Art Therapy.
I believe that thinking outside of our literal reality allows us to see the world through a more creative lense and find alternate ways of dealing with our problems. As a result, I use the Expressive Arts as a tool for therapy.

I offer care that is feminist , compassionate, person-centred and trauma-informed, tailored just for YOU.
Every single person will need compassionate support, personalized guidance and wisdom, at some point in their lives. If you have a history of trauma, a painful childhood, or have suffered from anxiety/depression for a long time, then this is even more true of you. Emotions and thoughts can be confusing and even hurtful to yourself and others. Some mental states are so complex, that seem to be layer upon layer of suffering. Life can be a rollercoaster and healthy stable relationships appear to be too much work! Imagine not to be defined by your history or struggles. Imagine being able to tap into joy and inner strength at any time!

We all come from vastly unique life experiences and identities, and there is no “one size fits all” way to heal and grow. I take an eclectic approach to therapy that is guided by my clients' individual needs. My practice is influenced by relational, narrative, experiential, and existential modalities, which I have a keen interest in integrating with creative and somatic techniques. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that values warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. I work through the lens of an intersectional feminist , anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed framework that centers you as the expert of your own experiences.

When I think about therapy, I imagine my client’s search for well-being and healing as if they were lost and trying to find their way home. You might know where home is, but find yourself stuck in darkness, not being able to find your way. As your therapist, I see myself holding the flashlight. You are the one who knows your way to healing, and I have the tools to help get you there easier. This is what I believe therapy looks like; us walking together on your journey. As we travel together to help you find “home”—your place of healing, peace, and comfort—while I share my knowledge and tools to help you find that “home”.

Feminist Counsellors

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
