Growing up in a household where mental health did not exist and was heavily stigmatized, I always felt different from my
family
members when it came to expressing emotions, being vulnerable and highly attuned to others, and ultimately felt like a fish out of water – an outsider that was “too sensitive”. Now, embracing and loving this part of me, I use those “weaknesses” as my strengths. I have felt my own growth and personal discovery through my work and know that growth can happen at any time, anywhere, even in the direst of situations. I come along with you on your journey as you learn to embrace who you are and create new paths.

I work with youth and individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore: life transitions; self-worth & meaning; anxiety, stress, or emotional disturbances; relationships, attachment & interpersonal conflict; personal & intergenerational trauma;
family
dynamics & childhood wounds; BIPOC & other cultural issues; mindfulness practices.
Life can be challenging as each day may bring unexpected stresses or circumstances. We may not always be able to control what comes our way, but we can learn ways to cope in these situations and train our minds to help us in times of distress. I believe that everyone has the strength within themselves to overcome their challenges and reaching out for support can be one of those strengths.

. After 20 years of providing psychotherapy, I am even more certain that assisting people to a better place of well-being is an honouring process. I believe that people usually come to a therapy process because despite their efforts, their roadmap in their lives doesn't apply anymore. Therapeutic conversations can provide an opportunity to explore life experiences and create new awareness of choices and strategies to resolve the difficulties that you may be experiencing.

I have passion for counselling and can offer a professional approach to stress management, depression, anxiety,
family
&couple relationship issues using modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focus therapy (EFT) and other therapeutic approaches to help you live a happier, more meaningful and goal oriented life.
We all want to be happy, enjoy life, feel good, and have successful career and healthy relationships. Unfortunately, we sometimes experience trauma or severe life stressors. When this happens; it is not uncommon for our lives to unravel; happiness and enjoyment are then replaced by sadness, emotional pain, frustration and loneliness. We feel hurt and want relief.

You’re the Black Sheep of the
family
, who doesn’t fit in anywhere and struggles with loneliness: The Outsider. You are talented and intelligent with ambitious business and/or creative dreams; but due to procrastination fueled by self-sabotage, like addictions (e.g., cannabis, pornography, video games), you continually fail to achieve goals. You negatively compare yourself to others, find it difficult to overcome mistakes, feel like a failure, and wish you had the confidence to fulfill your true potential because you are meant for more than the mediocrity that most people settle for. Welcome, it's time to awaken the warrior within!

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
