I am also trained in CBT, DBT, Attachment-Based Parenting, ASIST, and currently training in the Gottman Method to Couples Counselling.
I believe that challenges can be beautiful, albeit deeply painful, opportunities to create a life you feel inspired to live There is hope in every situation, and often life’s greatest lessons are learned during its biggest obstacles. Life's not always easy. Hardships and transitions can blindside you and leave you feeling like you’re just trying to survive, and on autopilot. And then the questions come: Who am I? How did I get here? The life you have doesn’t reflect the one you imagined. While we can not change the past, we can choose to create meaning in our experiences, and determine how its legacy comes forward with us.

Neglecting your struggles and downplaying your needs is a disservice to your authentic self. Our philosophy is centered on embracing the unknown and investing in yourself. We believe that while challenges can be tough, they also present invaluable opportunities for growth.

During sessions, I will flexibly combine skills-focused approaches such as CBT, DBT or the Gottman Method, as well as create space for deeper processing through Somatic, Internal Family Systems and attachment-based therapies.
At the heart of my practice lies a deep commitment to guiding individuals through the complexities of trauma, attachment, and relationship issues. There's nothing more rewarding to me than witnessing the transformative journey towards healing from these challenges. Clients often seek support for a range of struggles, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and relationship breakdown. These burdens often stem from early traumatic experiences and ruptured attachment bonds with caregivers. Together, we will illuminate these hurdles, uncover your potential to navigate them and co-create new meanings for your life moving forward.

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy alongside an attachment-based, person-centered, and strength-based approach.
Hey! I'm Katherine, and I’m here to help you navigate life’s challenges with compassion, understanding, and a bit of humour along the way. Life can throw us curveballs—whether it’s stress, anxiety, trauma, or big life transitions—and sometimes, it feels like we’re just trying to keep our heads above water. But you don’t have to do it alone.

I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based perspective that draws on the impact of past trauma.
If you find yourself thinking 'my partner doesn't care', 'I do so much but it's never enough', or 'I just can't get it right', then I can help. I provide targeted therapy to couples struggling with challenges such as infidelity, not feeling like a priority, not feeling heard or understood, difficulties communicating, emotional distance, anger, and intimacy challenges. Perhaps conflict is more frequent and you find yourselves getting caught in the same cycle over and again and nothing seems to help. I have helped countless straight and same sex couples heal from the pain and rebuild meaningful intimacy and connection.

I rely on various modalities, but 3 in particular: Somatic Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, and Internal Family Systems/IFS or parts work.
I am heavily informed and guided by queer, trans, neurodiverse, feminist, decolonial, and animist lineages. In practice, this means I treat everything that emerges in your world as having value. Our work together is to bring a specific quality of attention and witness to yourself and your current reality, in hopes of integrating it fully within your system.

I draw from EFT, IFS, CBT, attachment-based, and somatic therapies to support emotional healing.
Do you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck—maybe even isolated and invalidated—even when surrounded by well-meaning family, friends, or a spouse? You are not alone, and I see you. I have been there too—navigating a chronic illness and starting life in Canada at 18 as an immigrant. These experiences shaped my path and led me here, ready to support you on yours. I offer a safe and affirming space to explore your emotions, challenges, and goals—at your pace, in your own voice, grounded in empathy and cultural understanding.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
