“You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn. I believe life is like an ocean, where there are moments of calmness and moments of turbulence. Like the ocean, we cannot stop the stormy seas from coming. Whether you are experiencing life transitions, relationship issues, a loss, trauma, overwhelming worry, or
anxiety
, my role is to help you navigate the turbulent waves until you can surf the rough seas with ease. My approach is relational, culturally sensitive, and client-centred. My warm, genuine, and compassionate nature allows me to provide a nonjudgmental space for my clients to feel safe and heard.

I work with adults who are experiencing
anxiety
, depression, anger, stress, PTSD/trauma, relationship challenges and self-esteem issues.
While navigating some of life's challenges is difficult to do alone, reaching out for support can be life-changing. When therapy feels safe, non-judgmental, and supportive, healing can take place. I aim to support clients by creating an empathic environment, taking the time to understand the sources of difficulties, offering reflections that help deepen personal understanding of oneself, and offering individually-tailored coping strategies. I balance accepting clients as they are with promoting the positive changes and personal growth they seek.

People who may not be able to experience other kinds of psychotherapies are often more open to the benefits of music therapy. You can develop love for life through creative music making, because music plays incredible role in human well-being. I provide a person-centred and evidence-based music therapy/psychotherapy, using a heart-centred model as a representative of the humanistic approach, and a music-centred model as a professional musician, which gives me a wide range of musical and verbal choices for implementing activities and allows me to be flexible in selecting methods and techniques.

The high levels of
anxiety
, anger and loss that families are facing today are wreaking havoc on our well-being and in our relationships. You may notice the ways you used to cope with stress are no longer working. You long to move away from being in survival mode but aren’t sure where to begin. You may secretly believe nobody out there will ever understand you or care to, which can be a lonely and painful experience. You being here means you are exploring the idea of reaching out to speak with a therapist. This is a brave and vulnerable first step.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
