We all experience difficult encounters that leave us questioning our world view or even ourselves. Finding the right support is a difficult task and can oftentimes be a daunting experience. I aim to create safe emotional spaces to help, explore, cope with, or overcome difficulties towards acceptance, serenity, inner peace, empowerment, and healthier relationships. I believe that difficult experiences can either break us down or build us up. I have a Master of Arts Degree in Addictions Counselling and my methods include narrative therapy, CBT, CPT and DBT.

Everyone embarks on unique journeys involving various overwhelming challenges including emotional and mental health issues, substance abuse and relationship issues. My colleagues and I fully understand that when two or more people cope with similar circumstances, no two minds function alike. Therefore, my services instill clients with how to love themselves through comprehensive, mental, emotional and spiritual enrichment regardless of their age, social or ethnic background, or physical capacities. Overall, the greatest satisfaction comes from seeing clients reach self-actualization by gaining strength, confidence and empowerment to confront their own inner conflicts "for we all smile in the same language".

I believe that challenges can be beautiful, albeit deeply painful, opportunities to create a life you feel inspired to live There is hope in every situation, and often life’s greatest lessons are learned during its biggest obstacles. Life's not always easy. Hardships and transitions can blindside you and leave you feeling like you’re just trying to survive, and on autopilot. And then the questions come: Who am I? How did I get here? The life you have doesn’t reflect the one you imagined. While we can not change the past, we can choose to create meaning in our experiences, and determine how its legacy comes forward with us.

Therapy is the space to land if you feel stuck and tormented by overwhelming internal experiences. These can include fears, self-doubt, limiting beliefs, uncomfortable body sensations, insecurities, self-blame, and emotional distress. Often, these experiences are rooted in old emotional wounds that have now reached into your present experiences of work, career aspirations, friendships as well as relationship and dating challenges. With a keen sense of awareness into your unique needs, I will help you illuminate these hurdles, uncover your potential to navigate them and co-create new meanings for your life moving forward.

Whether you are struggling with addiction, stress, chronic pain, or depression, I can help. Although these four issues may seem separate, there is a lot of overlap and chances are that if you are experiencing one of these issues, you are experiencing at least two others, where they feed off each other. My holistic approach takes into account your life as a whole. I believe in long-term recovery, so I aim to treat and heal root causes rather than symptoms alone. I also help to create sustainable and supportive structures in your life that you can lean on during hard times.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
