Accepting new clients. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, or challenges within your relationships or family, you don’t have to navigate it alone. My name is Theresa, and I recognize the trust it takes to invite someone into your story.
Sometimes the ways we learn to cope, protect ourselves, or simply get through difficult experiences can eventually leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. This doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. Often, our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours make sense when we understand what we’ve lived through.

I work primarily using Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy ( DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches.
People might choose to work with me in therapy for many reasons. Most often, this is related to difficulty with emotions/emotion regulation, low mood/depression, and/or anxiety. I also work with individuals struggling with self-harm and OCD. During initial sessions, I work collaboratively with people to identify their goals for therapy and establish a plan for how we’ll work together towards those goals. I work with adolescents, adults, children and/or their parents.
I provide psychoeducational assessments (learning disabilities/ADHD) for ages 7-17, as well as diagnostic assessments (mental health) for adolescents and adults.

Life can feel overwhelming — especially when anxiety, trauma, or old wounds show up in the middle of daily responsibilities. Many of my clients are women and mothers who look strong on the outside but feel exhausted, anxious, or disconnected inside. I help people untangle those struggles, find steadier ground, and reconnect with the parts of themselves they may have lost along the way.

We often work from a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy lens focusing on: how to live in the present moment, tolerate difficult emotions, shift unhelpful feelings and communicate your needs effectively.
You are the woman who does it all. The one who shows up, who takes care of everything and everyone, who keeps life moving forward. On the outside, you seem strong, capable, even unstoppable. But inside? You’re exhausted. You feel stretched so thin that you barely recognize yourself.
Maybe motherhood has consumed you in ways you never expected—the invisible load of organizing, and holding everything together weighs on you daily. On top of this, you may be navigating grief - loss of a loved one, a pregnancy, or even yourself.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
