Psychotherapy is a Spiritual Endeavour. I call it the healing journey. It is a pilgrimage. I might be your first stop but not necessarily. All instances require a lot of courage and a lot of faith that something can truly change. We continue to watch action movies because the hero represents this courage, that no matter how dire and hopeless the situation is, the hero rises. No matter what your life has been and no matter how hopeless you may feel, by coming to therapy you show courage to fight, to do something about it. Psychotherapy is essentially a process of reconciliation with our past, with others, and with ourselves.

Clarity is my hope for each person I see, whether we use Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Narrative approaches, EMDR, Mindfulness, yoga, polyvagal theory, or creative arts expression. Regardless if your struggle is with depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, or trauma, clarity means a better awareness and understanding of yourself in the current situation. Knowing yourself allows you to make choices best for you, consciously. It can be challenging to unravel and understand all of the often conflicting messages we hear and give ourselves, but it is crucial. This is the work I will support and guide you in.

The desire to make sense of your experience is important to you. I understand how your interactions with loved ones and others is influenced by a variety of factors. We are multi-faceted beings. Psychotherapy can help you understand how your experiences impact you in the present through mindful observation and increased self-awareness. Being stuck is an indication of an unconscious conflict that needs to be worked through. The ability to understand and embrace yourself through increased self-awareness will help you to connect to self-compassion, regulate emotions, increase agency and self-empowerment, and quiet the inner critic

***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS*** Life doesn’t have to be full of grudges, anxiety, anger and grief all the time; or perhaps just passing by because of poor relationships and traumatic experiences that control us. I believe in our inner strength, and I am passionate about personal growth and healing. I think that we are all strong enough to move forward in our journey of healing, self-discovery and personal growth. I believe our first instinct as human beings is to seek contact and comforting connection.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
