What kind of person do you want to be? What do you hope to build towards or overcome? What gets in the way, causing you to feel stuck? Whether you or someone you care about is on a grief journey, sorting through past or present challenges (including trauma), dealing with a tough inner critic or facing relational conflict... hope remains! Whether young, old, or somewhere in between, I believe that with meaningful support everyone has the potential to move towards greater joy, hope, purpose, and connection.

I can help you navigate anxiety or depression related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the complexity of parenting .
Do you have anxiety about your pregnancy or stress about raising your child that affects your mental health? You are not alone! Pregnancy is meant to be a happy time of our lives - a new milestone and a new beginning; however, for many, it can also be a trigger of past negative experiences and be quite challenging at times. It is overwhelming trying to deal with stress and anxiety while you are pregnant. It feels like you have tried everything but things are still not getting better. Although stress is a natural response to challenges, it can take its toll on your mental health when it persists for too long.

This can be triggered when you struggle with issues of; general fears, personal relationships, divorce, career, health, grief, parenting , school, family, unresolved trauma, self-esteem, sexual orientation, substance abuse or any other difficult life situation.
I help you cope with anxiety and depression. I do this in stages. The first stage is to offer tools to regulate your emotions before they become unmanageable and lead to panic attacks or isolation. In the second stage I help you discover things about yourself that you are not fully aware of. With this self discovery, you will understand WHY you do what you do in life, HOW you became the person that you are today and HOW to transform certain aspects of yourself that no longer serve you to become the amazing person you were born to be.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
